2005 X3 6 CD Changer

Afternoon All

I have been looking into the possibilty of changing my factory head unit to something else, maybe an aftermarket unit or mayeb some kind of ipod connectivity solution.

However, I have just begun thinking about whether my X3 would play MP3 CD's? I must admit I did try when i first got the car, but didnt really know what I was doing. The resulting CD that I burnt didnt play...I just got a loud, high pitched screeching sound. I assumed I had done something wrong and gave up!

I dont have any idea what model of head unit I have. All i can tell you is that it has the business navigation (cr@ppy orange arrows) and a 6CD changer installed in the arm rest.

The fact that the CD changer is in the arm rest means i am unable (as far as I can tell) to change install something like a dice unit in there as the space is taken up and the connectors taken by the cd changer itself.

I would even be happy (for now) with the AUX option of plugging an ipod into the rear arm rest socket - but alas my X3 doesnt have this port!

Failing the MP3 CD solution, is there a way of getting a simple AUX connection on my head unit? Maybe its installed in the back or something?

Sorry for the newb questions

The fact you got some sound leads me to think the cd changer can read mp3. What did you use to create the cd? It should be a data cd with mp3 files on, ensure the file names are relatively short and between 128kbs and 320kbs.

Right, okay....the cd changer now wont return my disks. its been saying "no disk" more and more recently and now it has my discs hostage.

No more trying to burn disks, im moving to a mew setup, like dice or aux connection for my phone/ ipod
