Does anyone know how to reset the airbag light.
I have a 2001 X5 (built sept 2000) and I took off the door panel to fix a widow lift. When I discontected the side air bag and drove for a day the air bag light on the dash when on.
Can anyone help.

hi, i've done a similar thing with my window and the Airbag symbol came up as well. Is there anyway to remove it without resorting to go to the dealer or buy a special tool?

No. However, asking the dealer to reset it should be easy and it should not cost you anything. I had an issue with my battery in my 2004 325i and I ask the dealer to reset the airbag light, which they did at no cost and only took it 1 minute.

From what i am reading, no. that scanner is a generic OBD2 scanner basically to read check engine lights on all obd2 equipped vehicles. You need either bmw diagnostic software installed on a laptop with the usb to obd2 cable or a peak scanner or some other srs compatible reset tool. Generic scanners will not work for that.

Ditto...to reset an airbag light...one requires a dedicated SRS reset tool.

The forum member that got their local BMW dealership to reset the light without diagnostic got VERY lucky. The reason being, if the dealership or other shop would reset your SRS warning light without diagnostics to determine if the issue is fixed/resolved...and it WASN'T...and then you get involved in an accident where you or a passenger was injured by an an airbag that didn't deploy as it was supposed to...they'd be liable for a MAJOR lawsuit which they won't win even though you told them to clear the warning.

So, to anyone working around any airbag in your car...MAKE SURE YOU DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FIRST before disconnecting any airbag electrical connector...and DO NOT reconnect the battery UNTIL you've reconnected the electrical connector to the airbag connector. If you don't, you'll end up like those in this thread with an SRS warning light illuminated.

Can INPA reset the airbag? I got table before I had the car. I installed it on a Win 7/64 laptop only to find the driver is 32 bit and then got caught up in database errors on install on an XP 32 bit laptop.

I'll redouble my efforts to get it installed on the XP laptop if it will solve my airbag.

Thanks

Thanks. I got it running but after the update have lost e53. (I have a 2003 X5 4.4) I tried e39 since they are mechanically similar and get this error:

I saw that meant a port issue (I told it to use USB emulation during install) but do not see any config options in Inpa.

Thanks

I found a post on e46 fanatics that directed me to a folder with USB settings.

I changed it as directed with no change.

It's really odd. It reads the modules and sees what the car has:

It read the trans errors & said it cleared them (there were none)

How do I get e53 back on the list?

I uninstalled & reinstalled without the update and have e53 back. It accepts commands to run the electric fan end do other things but says no response when I try to reset the airbag.

I tried some more. The video below is what I referred to as seeing the bags. After watching it again it seems it is not seeing anything but the transmission because at :59 it shows data after the transmission control.

What should I check to get it to see everything else assuming my theory is valid.

Probably something wrong with your installation or the machine it is on or the cable even. Have you ever used it before successfully or is this your first try? Whats the os you're using it on? (Nvm i see xp i think? Starting to think either the cable or the install setup you used if its xp; tis supposed to run perfect on xp, and inpa on win7 32 bit)

It is a fresh install of XP pro done because I could not get it to install on 7 64. It has not worked outside making the fan run faster and some valve to purge and getting info from the transmission & engine.

I fixed the link in my last post
