1995 740IL Radio will not come on.

I just bought a 1995 740IL.

Immediately I notice that the Radio Cluster will not power on at all. None of the buttons on the steering wheel will work other than the horn.

I did test the battery. All Good.

I purchased a NEW ignition switch. NO Change.

I am not sure where to go with this.

Any help??

Start by checking the plugs/joints/earths in the dash. Then the same with the modules in the boot.

I am not sure what you or should I say mean by plugs/joints/earths in the dash? Do you mean I have to remove the dash or radio?

What is the boot?

Your ignition switch might be bad. A lot of quirky things go wrong when an ignition switch goes bad. I had this problem and the first thing that went wrong was my radio.

For ''boot read 'trunk'. You wont have to remove the dash but you will have to get access to plugs etc to get them clean and electrically sound. Same with the earth (ground) points. Check for water getting into the fuse box under the bonnet too.

wires??

I looked in the area where the cd changer is, I see these wires dangling. Could this be the problem?? I do not see where they could plug in though.

Hi Kevin, I am pretty sure those wires are for extra accessories that did't come with the vehicle. It's normal for bmw to have these wire harnesses for future add-ons. Before you spend to much time and money on this problem check all your fuses. Sounds like you might have blown one.
