straight 6 production end??

anyone know when bmw is stopping production of the straight 6 and replacing it with 4 and 6 cylinders turbos ?

My mistake, the 128i and the 328i coupe still have the N52 16 naturally aspirated engines. Otherwise everything else is at turbo 4, 6 or 8.

You're welcome. Both the 128i and 328i coupe are at the end of their life cycles so BMW hasn't invested in upgrading the engine. As far as I know (before I stick my foot in my mouth again) those are the last two NA engines BMW offers.

Having owned both a 128i and 328i, I agree it is a wonderful motor. But the 135i/335i/535i motor is still a "straight six" as the BMW turbo has not resulted in a switch to either a V6 or a boxer 6 configuration.

thanks for the info fellas i knew it was nearing the production so wanted to map out how long i had before they disappeared and wanted to make sure i didn't mess any changes

Hence why I'm keeping my 2011 e90 last of the saloon's naturally aspirated silky smooth inline six for a loooooooong time. I honestly don't know if I will ever sell it. I have twin boys that will eventually drive it several years down the road from now. I really think the inline 6 represents the heart and soul of a BMW.

A little off topic but anyone catch the Dec Roundel issue where that 83 year man still has his 1968 2800CS I think it was. With over 425,000 miles and the car still looks showroom. I think that is very cool to keep a car that long and take pride in it.

i agree very sad to see it go away but as they say all good things must come to an end and i agree once i get one i can't see any reason to get rid of it as it will become part of BMW history

I love my Engine. It sounds so sweet and revs so smoothly I may have to keep it forever. I want the new 328d xdrive and will need to think hard if I want to sell my 328i or keep two 3 series in the garage.

Just to clarify, the turbo 6 (n54, n55) is still an inline 6.

Exactly my point of view; test drove an F30 but

1) no 6sp offered for the F30 328 xDrive
2) I4 turbo sounds more like a sewing machine.

Both deal breakers for me; on the upside I now enjoy my E90 so much more!
