Working on a spare tire solution
Those of you coming from the E9x platform are probably familiar with the spare I dug out of the ETK...
http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=297373 new car, new solution a much cheaper alternative. i gave my original kit to my brother when he got an E90.1) bmw E60 spare tire rim- $60 1) kuhmo 135/90/17 tire - $30 1) harbor freight scissor jack - $20 1) 15mm spacer + 5 45mm lugs - $40 1) gorilla telescopic lug wrench -$20 $170 total I already had some of the parts, so it was about 130 total spacer is only needed for the front of the F30, the brakes are even larger than the E90 335i. I went with 15mm to be able to have a full extended lip spacer. i suspect a 5-10mm would work based on observed clearance, but the 5 would have cut down on hub lip length and the 10 would have needed an extender cap. so far, i've tested the spacer with the E60 spare and tire, clears the front brakes and no clearance issues. i picked the 135/90/17 as a) it is between my winter and summer tires in size (26.5 vs 26.8 and 26.0) and it was rather inexpensive. next step is to get the tire mounted on the rim and to test the final config. the jack, although inexpensive, looks alot more sturdy than the bmw kit jack (some reports of it failing due to the plastic screw block stripping out have been noted). i never had any issues with the E60 kit jack, but it does look a little flimsy |

Runflats all the way.
Popped a flat in my hertz rental, no hertz truck for miles, had to change that bad boy and missed my flight. If the donut would have popped I would have drove that sh!t on rims. Funny thing is it had an oil change window sticker. Car had 28k. Oil change sticker had a reminder that on 1/18/13 at 21k Hertz should have changed the oil. Driving MY car on runflats? Not in a million years - I won't be dumping it after 3 days.
