Strut Housing Help

Wassup E34 comrads. Got a problem here. Had a cracked strut so in the attempt to replace it notice some leftover previous strut stuff. I have most of it out of the strut housing but the gunk at the bottom which looks like compacted carbon, 20 year brake dust etc and some shards of tin or metal from the previous strut, Considered the strut assemblies cost an arm and a leg what would be suggested to get that stuff out of there? I bought some engine gunk removal i was gonna put in it to loosen it up in there and perhaps take a long chisel and knock that metal out of there

I paid 150 for a pair of assemblies for my coilovers, however I wouldn't buy any. Just soak it in engine degreaser. I don't think it's metal that's in the bottom though. Probably just dried up shock fluid and brake dust.

Couldnt get that stuff out so i went to the junkyard and pulled a whole assembly off of a 92 525i. Didnt take long to put it in mine either. Now i just gotta find the time to do the other side
