So I have wanted a Bimmer for a long time and FINALLY got what I wanted. I have three growing boys and really needed something with leg room (my 14 yr old is 6'2") and picked up a 2001 740i M Sport. I LOVE IT! She has a few minor issues that are common to this model. Glovebox latch, passenger rear window regulator and cupholders that just fall apart when you open them. Minor inconveniences compared to the joy of driving her around and the room my three boys have now.
I have always been a car guy and love forums for help and finding good deal on parts. I have a pair of Nissan 240SX's and the forums ahve saved my butt and wallet numerous times. First order of business is I would like my glovebox to work. Does anyone have a handle that is not broken that doesnt want a million dollars for it? I took mine apart and I dont think it is broken. It is missing some parts. I am not too familiar but looking at pictures online it is missing the torsion spring and a small black plastic piece. The white nylon piece that the cable attaches to is not torn or broken. Maybe I just need a busted latch for the pieces. Not sure.......... I do most of my own work on all of my vehicles and have been a mechanic for years. Helicopters in the Army and after I got out and now drones. I am not afraid to tackle even the biggest jobs as long as I have a manual and the forums to ask questions. Also when the transmission starts to go out she is going to get a 6 speed swap. Doingthe research on it, it seems pretty straightforward. I have done the conversion before, but on one of my 240's. My 14 year old wants a Beemer now for his first car so I am thinking mid-late 90's 3 series...... 5 speed and something he HAS towork on sohecan learn andbe self sufficient. Boz |
