glove box stuck

I suppose while I'm here, I should ask this:

Does anyone know how to get into the glove box when it won't unlock? It looks like someone tried to force it open, perhaps to see if there was anything worth stealing. Now it won't unlock, so I can't get in to fix the problem. I figure there must some easy way that won't break anything further.

Can you explain more about why it won't unlock? Does the key go in all the way? The key goes in all the way but won't turn? Perhaps something is stuck inside the key slot? Can you see if there is something inside?

The key goes in and turns, but the lock doesn't unlatch. I can't see inside, but the left hand side looks as though it has been pulled on quite hard...sort of "curled out" a bit.

Not sure what else you want to know.

Try pushing the handle into the normal position and try to unloc again.

in an effort to help, i messed up mine too! lmao
locked it with key, then unlocked it, now pulling up on the latch wont unlatch the glove box. Gertrude12 is this the same problem you are having?
i do notice a slight difference when locked and unlocked. when locked (keyslot horizontal) the latch only moves up a little. when unlocked (keyslot vertical) the latch moves up a little more but not enough to unlatch the glove box. it's like something is in the way or blocking the latch.

Edit: Found out later when locked the keyslot is vertical

Try pushing the box up from the bottom as you work the latch. It might release and can then be lowered.

That is EXACTLY the problem I'm having!

Will try FatherFigure's suggestion to see if that helps.

Well, I've managed to get the glove box open . Sadly, I have broken the latch in doing so . Not sure if it will close again either!

Once it opened, I noticed that neither of the pivot clamps were attached to anything. Wonder if that might have contributed to the problem?

pretty common in the E30s. not sure if the E30 and E34 handles are cross compatable, but the poverty pack E30 318i dont have the lock and just a clean handle, so people usually retrofit them onto their 325i etc. may work for E34 as well not sure.

like this which is my 316i (sorry old photo from my old ****ty Acer phone)
