Cabin filter recommendations

Other than BMW, what is a good brand cabin filter? I went to Advance Auto and tried the Purolator's breath easy and they did not fit correctly. As a review on thier website indicated correctly. Napa wanted more than the BMW parts cost. Not sure about Autozone... but I did a furious search and saw Bosch and some others. Opinions? I want to keep the charcoal and want good fitment, like the factory filters.

Order them online at Amazon or Rockauto ..... Significantly less $$$$ and they work fine. All the different brands I have gotten were fine. I use the Mahle and Mann filters myself . They are an OeM fit

I'd suggest sticking with a Charcoal activated filter, some of the cheaper aftermarket options are just paper filters. The Mann filter tmvE39/E53/Z32 mentioned is a great quality filter, for a lot less than the genuine one. I have the Mann as well as some others available HERE. Remember you are going to need two filters for the E39.

^ Looked up the Mann CUK 2736-2. Can someone confirm if the Mann filters have the plastic tabs like the OEM filters for good fitment. B/c I've seen a lot of pics where it's just a rectangle filter with no tabs. Going for $20 +SH for a set of 2 on Amazon.

I recently put in a pair of Mann filters. No plastic tabs. For a few seconds it seems like they don't fit in but they're a perfect snug fit, only takes 10 seconds apiece to pop them into place. There is an arrow drawn on the side showing direction of airflow so make sure you look at that to put them right side up.

www.autohausaz.com $23 for the pair, for Mann brand from Germany. You need to order $50 for free shipping, so get an air filter, oil filters and wiper refills while you are at it.

The latest version from Bosch, while they resemble the Mann, fit very poorly...essentially a "crush fit". I will be going back to the Mann on my next order...which should be in a couple months. (I replace them every 15k miles, which is every other oil/filter change)

How can the mann filters fit like BMW filters when they don't have the plastic frame & tabs? The BMW filters are elevated by the tabs. if the Mann filters don't have them, they sink into the hole. Not sure I like this. May just do BMW. I think it's a better design. I'm going to look at the box design again tonight...

I use Bosch and they fit snuggly and work pretty well. I haven't used any other brands but I can tell you I am satisfied with these.

They don't sink in, there are tabs on the bottom of the housing that they sit on top off

^Bingo!! I popped one out this evening and look at the design again. There is a shelf in the housing. As long as the filter fits snug and not lose, it will work. $20/pair of Mann's on Amazon it is. Thanks for help guys!

The dealer told me that for RE39 I need to replace 3 filters under the hood: 2 of them were the rectangular air cooling cabin filters. Whiich one is the third one?
