rear fog lights for US? non US?

In past BMW models, European and Non US cars got rear fog lights while US cars didn't. Is that true with the F10?

Yes, this is true.

However, the US F10's have the rear fog lights but simply lack the button to turn them on. I don't have a link on hand, but you can purchase a new control panel that has the button for rear fog lights and pop it in and they will work.

It would be great if some one can post a pic with the F10 rear fog lights on.

Not sure I understand the fascination with rear "Fog" lights. What is it that you are attempting to accomplish? Have the driver behind you think that you are riding your brakes?

If you ever have driven in very thick fog you will notice that you cannot see very far ahead which makes car appear in front of you all of a sudden, or as it seems. With the rear fog lights on people can see the rear of your car further away and hopefully avoid accidentally rear ending you

Watch this video. Had the disabled white porsche faced the correct way and had its fog lights on, this wouldn't have happened.

Thats how I got the wife to agree to me spending 134.

Haven't you ever seen the fog in Houston? I'm new to town but I've still seen it.

If you live in a place where fog gets thick (so your visibility is maybe 50 feet ahead at best), then rear fog lights are nice.

Usually people turn on their hazard lights because they don't have rear fog lights. But rear fog lights are so much cooler.

Plus, you get the added bonus of filling out that empty space where the button goes

At the bottom of the installation instructions they advertise a trim removal kit. I think this kit looks more fun than the switch control itself!

Dang, this kit is on back order too, March 29th!

yes I have lived in Houston for over 15 years now, so I have seen fog....I was just curious if there is much actual benefit here in the US. Do any vehicles built for the US have this feature?

When is your car arriving? Mine is at the port in Bermerhaven. Hoping it gets loaded on the Don Juan which leaves on the 13th

You do not need any special kit, even for a novice like me, I got my part from ECS and did the install in about 10 minutes. Just wrap the screwdrive in a velvet rag and pull the panel straightt up, it's quite easy and the new panel is direct plug-in to the OEM and matches perfectly. We don't get much heavy fog here in so Cal but it's nice to know I have it available if I eve need it.

By your comment it appears you do understand! If the visibility is low, and the guy behind you now SEES you AND thinks your riding your brakes - the lights have worked as designed.

Drivers behind you see you and will use some caution (hopefully) around you!

+1

I only use them when there is heavy fog. Definitely added safety.

You can also scare a tailgater by toggling the rear fog lights. Of course, you can brake check but this is much safer.

I've ordered a euro fog light switch assembly for my 535i from ECS Tuning which looks like this with one knurled dimming knob to the right of the rotory selector:

I like the idea of signalling a close follower without actually braking.

I've also noticed a version of this switch assembly with two knurled knobs to the right of the rotory selector:

I wonder what this switch assembly does additionally to what the ECS Tuning switch does. It looks like it might offer a dimming of the front fogs, possibly a consideration not entertained in some parts of the world.
