Vanos
Will the vanos unit from a 97 328 work on a 94 325i?

afaik, they are the same part(s) m50/m52 as long as they are not euro specn parts. i do not know what the difference would be, though i doubt we'd be coming across any euro spec vanos units without the rest of het euro-spec engine...
just my thoughts, though. df

They have different part numbers between M50 and M52.

Could that just be from an improved unit? I know that's usually the case with parts that have gone through major updates.

no doubt, but when looking up replacement parts, it appears that they are both interchangeable.
http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-57...36-e39-z3.aspx besides, if they were different, then we wouldn't be able to 'upgrade' cams from an //M motor to a non //M motor. i could probably manage to snap a few pic of the m50 andd m52 vanos housings and solenoids as i have both (one is @ the farm, so it wouldn't be until tomorrow at the earliest) just to be sure. df
