What is the USB port in gloves compartment?

Speaking just from my experience.....I think the car imports title and song info, but plays directly off of the thumb drive once the song is selected. I say this because music cannot be played if thumb drive not connected.

I haven't tried to play music direct from thumb drive at all. I have my ipod connect to that center consol and I use the thumb drive in glove compartment to import music to the hard drive. I may try to play music from thumb drive plug in center consol this weekend to find out if it can be played or not.
