Extended werranty or NOT! 2009 X5 35d
HI everyone ! I own a 2009 X5 35d with 49k miles......only had one minor oil leak which was repaired under warranty ( turbo inlet pipe and gasket replaced). I love this vehicle, but how reliable is it after the manufacturer warranty expires? I am a conservative driver, live in flat lands, with a warm climate. My dealer is offering an extended warranty from LDS (Louisiana Dealers Service) of 2 yrs/ 24k miles mechanical breakdown only with a $100 deductible per event for $3250 plus tax. Should I or NOT????????
your input is appreciated |

You are crazy to consider a third party warranty!! 2/24 is not much coverage
The BMW backed warranty is about the same price (not from your thief of a decker, but from a sponsor here).... And is good at any BMW dealer. You can get 7/100 (of +3 years and +50k miles) Heres the reason he is pushing that one: He is probably making $2000 profit on that plan. On a BMW plan he only makes a few hiundred (unless he jacks the price to $5000).. Do a search here for extended warranty and READ what hundreds of other people have done in your situation.... But to focus your thinking: Do you DIY at all? If you have a minor issue, is your only choice "take it to the dealer"? Is there a local indy that can do work? How long do you plan on keeping it? GL A

Do the search -- but the warranty is available from any BMW dealer. The only question would be are you eligible to buy it at 49K miles? I seem to recall 45K being the cut off for the original owner buying the BMW extended warranty. Of course there may be other BMW products I am not aware of. In any case you can always check with any authorized dealer to see what you can get from BMW (not a third party thing) and then shop around to other BMW stores with that info. The sponsors here are excellent sources. Greg Poland at Pacific BMW and Adrian Avila in Atlanta are two to start with. Both can direct you to the warrenty person in their stores.

babinjunior64,
ard is right. Only look at the "BMW Extended Vehicle Protection". (EDIT: I had posted a link to it but I see someone has already done that above). Note the differences between the Platinum and Gold Coverage options. Last edited by brian5; 02-10-2013 at 12:25 PM. |

This is your best bet... probably get a 7/100 and you'll have an easier time selling it to the next owner if it is under some residual warranty.,, GL A
