Shipping the Bimmer cross country. Suggestions?

Anyone have any GOOD experiences with a reasonably priced auto transport?
I have read the rail is a better way to transport, however cant seem to find anybody that does it. I have heard horror story after horror story about shipping cross country. I have already made the drive and am now concerned about additional millage on the car. Anybody have recommendations or tips? Thanks

I had a car shipped from FL to CA 6-7 years ago. I can't remember the company name, and can't find any correspondence with the info. I don't even remember the cost, but it seems like it was around $1200 for a covered trailer. I think covered is really the key though. When I was shopping around, uncovered was a lot cheaper, but I read lots of horror stories from people trying to save monie and go that route. Sorry I'm not more help, but I think you're going about it correctly by asking for recommendations on message boards like this. Good luck, I hope you find a good place to ship your car for you. If I find the name of the company I used, I'll send it to you.

I used a company called We Will Ship It. It's a terrible name, if you ask me, for a professional company. However, they we the best of the options I had at the time. Although my car arrived with a small dent on the b-panel, they were great about getting it fixed and gave me no hassles when I said I wanted the work done by the shop the local BMW dealer uses. They had great customer service, too. (One company literally started dropping f-bombs on me and threatened to find me and kick my ass when I questioned a procedure of theirs). We Will Ship It had good customer service outright...not just in comparison to Frank Rizzo, Inc.

I was happy with the price it cost for a TX to New England transport. My biggest complaint was the delay inherent in the industry and the way bids work. It took three weeks for my car to get picked up when I expected no more than 5 days. I couldn't shell out enough for an enclosed and dedicated trailer that would get me firm pick-up and delivery dates.

In an industry where it's hard for a customer to navigate and feel like they got a good value, I felt good with them. I'd recommend them to friends, with the "do your homework first" caveat. It's a tough industry to discern between pros and schmoes. Although it may look like a narrow-margin victory given my complaints, I intend to use them again in a few months.

Thank you all for your responses. I will report back with what I find. While I agree, driving is fun, I have already made the trip twice and am starting to rack up some millage.
Thanks again.

Years ago (2006?) I used DAS (Dependable Auto Shippers) to ship my Explorer from Seattle to Miami. The Explorer got there ahead of schedule in good shape for a reasonable price.

I passed a truck yesterday -- Passport Transport. I know nothing of them, but it was an enclosed trailer car shipper that two vehicles backed out. One was a late -20s, early -30s restoration car, the other was a fully restored 70s muscle-car. Both cars were pristine. I got the impression that this company is one you can trust with your pride and joy. Now, cost? No idea. Good luck.
