That makes sense. I see nothing wrong with the 4. Although it looks like an F30 with two doors, it has its own striking features. The M4 rendering using this car on an article I saw some weeks ago was absolutely stunning.

Right, but maybe not being full-time automotive writers makes them open minded and able to write what they want, without regard for their advertisers? I take their opinions as their own personal impressions, which they are free to have, just like you and me and anyone else.

BMW has been known for its eye-catching, futuristic designs
Futuristic? Not really. Every car company can make "futuristic" concept cars like the i8. It's a different thing entirely to put them into production for mass consumption. BMW tried with the E65 and E60 but rolled those experiments back rather quickly after that.

I actually agree with what it said about most of the 6 "concept cars". The Honda Urban SUV "concept" looks just like an Infiniti crossover, the new Lexus IS-F tries too hard to be muscular, and they call that new Passat a "concept sport" design? I guess it is what we should all expect when VW's parts bin sharing winning business model infects the entire auto industry.

That Passat was even less of a "concept" than the 4 series. It was unlocked to the public, I sat in it lol. When something is a concept, a 1 of 1- it's not left on the show floor to be groped by 1000 people a day lol.

unless benz or audi bought some add space and wanted them to return the favor, or maybe bmw pulled their adds shortly before.
i tend to assume there is always bias unless it can be proven otherwise

We all have our bias, it is the degree to which we can compare.

Someone who reads only one out of the 6 reviews above, without any interest in the comments made to the others cars, because he is only interested in the car he cares, obviously is also very biased.

BTW, I don't think the new 4 series is bad looking at all, but it is more similar to the F30, when you compare the sedans and coupes by some other brands.

my comment was directed at media in general, although it seemed specfic to this review, i have nothing against 4, i care more how it drives then how it looks

The E60 and E65/66 were not "rolled back " rather quickly. Unless you mean their design direction was brought back to the more traditional after they each had the typical seven year production run.

btw - they each outsold their predecessor.

For what is meant to be mostly a 2-door version of the 3, it looks plenty different to me. The author of the article is smoking something.

I think some journalist had a deadline to meet, needed a story, and pulled this out of the air. The criticism if the 4er is about 30 words long and doesn't really say anything.

At best, it's an opinion - he indicates no data or objective basis to call the 4er one of the worst cars at the show. He really just says he doesn't like it.

as long as they flatten the hood shape similar to how they fixed the F31, the coupe should turn out a winner. If they keep it as is, it will be a huge embarassment

It sure looks better than the C Class Coupe which looks like an Accord.

Please say more about this. I thought the F31 was exactly the same as the F30 from the B-pillars forward.

That's not a Coupe, thats a sports car in the vain of the Elise. My friend has been working on the powertrain tuning of the 4C for months now. It's very light, very raw, exposed carbon fiber-might not even have carpets.

BMW could do something like that with a two seater brought in under the Z4. But it's a very uber niche playing field. BMW does not want to play where there is no money to be made.

so BMW managements are full of accountants and not engineers

sorry, i meant the F34. I know the F34 is sister to the 5 chassis however it also has the misfortune of this impregnated hood aesthetic that plagues the F30. In this iteration however it is less pronounced and seems almost acceptable:

f30

f32 concept

Every car company is the battle/balance between the penny pinchers and "car guys".

Sometimes pretty interesting things come about, remember the Z8? That was a limited production halo car. But you don't get to make too many things like that.

F34 is not a sister to the 5 series, it's F30 based.

I see where you're coming from and can understand why some may not like the bulging throbbing hood. I kinda like it...and in my eyes, it does not look impregnated but rather looks like something ready to impregnate.
