How do you feel about the upcoming LCI?

I am curious how people feel about the upcoming LCI, especially the new F10 owners and the ones who have one on order (I am one of those). Shortly after you get your car, there is a facelift. I personally have never leased/bought a car so shortly before a facelift and have mixed feelings.

Mixed feelings.

I don't think the look of the vehicle will be that much different. Turn signal on the side mirrors would have been nice.

I would have liked the LED headlights, but the current headlights are nice too.

I would have liked the additional power as I think it will cut .3 off 0-60 and add 3 mph to 1/4. But I currently drive a 2008 E60 with 300/300 so I am getting a power upgrade nonetheless. Additionally, I am leasing for 39 months, so I know in 36 months I can order something with more power (e.g. a 650 GC).

I don't know that I will ever get an M car because I prefer xDrive in the winter (we have snow). So there isn't much power upside left for us that won't be getting an M.

The alternative option I am considering for 39 months from now is to get a 528 daily driver and a P car for summer driving. That's probably about the same cost as a 650 GC these days considering how overpriced it is. LOL.

With all of this said, although I've loved my E60, I'm ready to move on. That's why I decided not to wait back at the end of November when I ordered my F10 (yes, end of November and I still don't have it).

More than anything, I'm getting frustrated with the wait. When I finally get my vehicle, it will have been 90 days. It's taken so long mostly because I ordered an individual wood trim, and that actually kicked the build back about 30 days!

Anyone know if this will be a 3 or 4 year lci cycle? Turn signal would be nice on mirrors but doubtful, leds seems likely.

That's a looooong wait. I was feeling little annoyed with my 6 weeks since the order date.

Just saw some spy shots with the mirror and front fenders in camo so probably they'll pull the signals up to the mirror. But I prefer the fenders anyways.

The F10 is one of the rare models in which LED tail lights and turn signals were included the first model years.

I have seen many of the other models start out with standard bulbs which is kind of annoying.

From a design perspective I think BMW did a good job including features with the launch of the F10 that typically would be LCI improvements.

Fire away with the LCI, I feel there is not much more that they can do that would cause me to go "oh shoot" and keep the price point.

Signals on the mirrors suck. I've driven several F30's with them and they light up in your peripheral at night. Terrible.

My MDX has signals on the mirrors and never had an issue with this.

I knew that the LCI was coming out and ordered anyway. I mean, a slight refresh is just that a refresh. Its not going to have anything that my car does not currently have. A bit more power (easy upgrade) moving the reflectors, not a big deal. I too have a 39 month lease which will line up perfectly for an M4 ED. By that time it will the 3rd year of the new 4 and probably the second year of the M4 so all the kinks associated with a new car should be ironed out.

Also, I forgot to mention the one thing my car has that no the 2014 LCI will ever have - a full year of me driving it before the 2014 LCI is out. Nothing can replace that! If I want an LCI when my lease is done - well I can change it then.

My only regret is getting a month before those crazy 24 month deals were available. That would have been awesome.

I've done enough upgrades to mine that the LCI shouldn't bother that much as long as its only minor changes.

The LCI is rumored to include "re-engineered EPS for better feel" if that's true it will be significant and trump any cosmetic change. X-drive cars need not to fret.

Previous discussion, and some dealer confirmations indicate 2014 for LCI. I thought the spy photos showed turn signals on the mirrors. I've always liked the fender-mounted turn signals on European cars, but they all seem to be following the trend to the mirrors. I have a 2011 535i now, so I am thinking of a 2014 replacement. For those who bought a 2013, I wouldn't be too concerned about buying the model year prior to the LCI. As other people have said, it should only be some minor touch-ups. BTW, full LED haadlights on the 650 Gran Coupe are like $1900 -- not an option I'm thinking of now!

Yes. And I assume some of the software bugs would have been addressed as well.

There's always a facelift or a new design coming. It's a tough game to play and you can never win.

Although - one of the reasons I used to love driving 911's so much was because they always looked the same lol

True.

I've been in the computer business for too long now so I am very much used to this way of thinking. I ordered a 2013.

I have faith that BMW isn't gonna pull a Mercedes, which is design something they deem so inferior from the get-go, they have to do a massive reconstructive surgery for a mere facelift. While Mercedes designers seem to be lacking in either talent, vision, and/or confidence (or management) these days (one reason I wanted to get out of my W212 once I saw the facelift), I feel BMW are the opposite, at least right now.

The F01 facelift retains the dignity of the original, and shows a design team who stands behind their own work as something that is designed with initial foresight, and something that is too good and "sacred" to mess with too much. It seems like the F10 will get a similar treatment.

Either way, I'm not mad about it. Again, lately BMW facelifts their cars with class and subtly, i.e not like Mercedes is, where they're almost trying to make them look like all new models.

Think of it this way, if you have an M Sport F10 that's a pre-facelift, unless they don't change the M Sport Package at all, it'll be a pretty rare look for the F10, given its presence in all types of equipped F10's during its entire 7 year run.

Well said. The 911 is the most respected car in the world practically, largely due to how Porsche almost doesn't treat it like a "consumer product", they treat it like an enthusiast product. They keep it looking the same for as long as they can, which keeps owners happy, resale high, and people perceiving them as very confidence inspiring.

However, don't mistake this for "slacking off". Porsche designs it "just right" from the get-go, and constantly refine it, which is how any iconic product should be treated (Apple follows this "911 iconically evolutionary approach" very successfully as well.

I considered waiting but ordered in Jan this year. I'd have to wait a couple more months to confirm when the LCI hits Japan and then wait some more, order and wait some more.

My dealer indicated that they will release a limited edition 523 and 528 mid 2013 so expects LCI end of year or even early 2014. In addition, given lack of demand may not offer the 550 here anymore (I find that hard to believe) or do something like release a 540 to replace the 535 instead for the LCI fleet.

So yeah, no regrets but those new LED ring headlights are to die for. Some guy on the F01 forum posted a detailed retrofit so I imagine it's possible to do this for the F10 in the future

In addition to the LED-Headlights, I'm hoping for the introduction of this:

It's already available on the F10 in Germany - so hopefully, we will be getting it, too.

First time I saw this, I thought that it was awesome. But after some time, now they look too cartoonish.

Well, there are many ways to configure the display - so I'm sure there will be a set-up I could live with.

If the LCI comes with a cavity in the trunk for a spare, I will be very interested.
Otherwise...
