Adding streaming BlueTooth via AUX audio port

Just did it via $60 Griffin Blue Trip AUX from Amazon. Plugged it into a rear power plug and connected to audio port below. Can now stream Pandora!

Streaming Pandora

You can do this for nothing. I have an iPhone 4 (5 coming soon). All I do is connect the phone to the cable in the center console. Turn on Pandora on the phone and the music plays perfectly. The music information is displayed on the Nav panel.

Was the wire long enough for you to leave the transmitter in the console, and just route the wire out and around to the plug in the back of the console?

What shows up on the iDrive screen?

What kind of phone are you using?

What happens when the phone rings? Does the car's integrated Bluetooth take over? What about when you want to make a phone call? Again, does the integrated Bluetooth take over?

If using your iPhone, depending on your cellular plan, is there not significant cost involved with streaming?

If you have a data plan with a reasonable amount of data allowances (2 GBytes or so), you'll be fine. I do this all the time (hard wired to my car through the console plug) and never incur any additional charges.

Do you hear any kind of electrical noise in the sound system when using this device?

Sorry if I'm late or sound old school, but I'm very busy sometimes and forgetful. I just watched the review for this and got an awesome idea. Because the five has that outlet under the passenger footwell, and they deactivate when the vehicle shuts down all I have to do is run a 10ft aux cable under the carpet to it and presto. I installed my aux port inside my armrest so it will be hidden for me. Thanks for this posting this item Phoenix.

I have a question that I can't find a definite answer to. Can the iPhone 5 connect to two devices via Bluetooth at the same time? If I'm streaming music and get a call will it switch to the cars Bluetooth or will it stay streaming and have to take the call via the device through aux? I'm sure call quality would be the same yes?

I asked this question about six posts ago. This is useless if this makes the car's integrated Bluetooth doesn't work any more.

I don't think it's a matter of whether the iPhone 5 can, it's whether Bluetooth protocols allow it

And the answer (as far as I know) is that they do not. You can use it on one or the other at a time, not both

Yep, it doesn't sound like it will work. The problem would be if you get a call you have to reach for the phone, or click the button on the device which would be out of reach and have poor call quality anyway. As of right now it's not looking good because quality phone calls via Bluetooth is way more important than music via Bluetooth for me.
Time for a new car I guess.
Or a CIC upgrade.

Incorrect, Bluetooth will allow it as long as they are different protocols. I have this same setup using my blackberry phone with a miccus mini bluetooth receiver. Audio is streamed to the Bluetooth receiver via the aux cable and phone calls are routed to the car's integrated Bluetooth as before. If a call comes in while I am listening to iHeartradio or pandora, the handoff to the car Bluetooth is seamless.

Hey. Guys been reading this post and answer me this ,,, if it blue tooth why do u have to plug into the aux ,,, ? Don't have to plug ur phone in on a phone call,, is it just the transmitter u plug in, ?? I don't see the benefit if u still have ur phone plugged in for power. Midas well have have ur phone plugged in to the aux and power with the same iphone connection cord , that's how I have mine set up,

Bluetooth protocols for phone calls is much lower quality than those that can be used for music. These cars don't support the "higher" quality connections directly, thus the reason to use another solution.

I THINK the CIC system may support streaming music over blutooth, but that's just a faint memory that may be incorrect

edit: the protocol used for streaming music is called "A2DP" for what it's worth.

You won't need to have your phone plugged in. This device uses power from the outlet. It collects the music from your phone through Bluetooth then it sends that music to the car through the aux. your phone can just be there free of cords unless you plug it into a charger for power.

It's about an hour long install, then the car has to be coded via a dealer (not recommended$$)
or some people on these very forums.
