Re: Official E34 Off Topic Thread

So that idiot from Russia(Georgia) that was responsible for those stupid street drifting vids died in a crash. The irony is he wasn't even driving. I'm on instagram and a lot of eastern European people are making him out to be a darn hero. Pictures of his car are up and the damage was pretty horrible.

I do not condone what he did. But if he really did it all, and the whole time he managed it with out anyone else getting hurt than that is pretty amazing.!!!

The man could drive, cant take that away from him. Im kinda sad. Not gonna lie

Not sure who you are referring to, but the driver of the M5 no longer has a life. He's now dead. He had great driving skills that were appropriate for a drifting track, not public streets.

Sad. But I agree with what someone said sometime ago... (maybe 540 said it )

It sure did look like he did a rail before performing the stunt he did.

His manipulation of that M5 was serious. Then again if you lived in NYC during the early to late 90's you'd see idiots do that almost everyday.

RIP.

i have no guilt in saying he is better off dead. Putting literally hundreds of peoples lives at risk just for a bit of fun and/or a bigger internet penis, the loss could be a lot more than one.

Who asked you? We all get away with something some more than others. He never actually hurt anyone there was not a dent on the M5 before. He is no hero just a hell of a driver who paid the ultimate price for doing what he loved and more so being nice enough to let someone drive that M5.. To bad it was not RHD the driver should always take the hit..

Hate to live with that on my chest! He was only 26!

Re: Official E34 Off Topic Thread

Definitely sad to see a young man lose his life but better this way than by killing an innocent person. An accident was bound to happen. There's no way to be that lucky all the time.
God knows how many more crazy russian wannabes are gonna appear now as well. They can put up all warnings they want but kids are gonna try it. How many kids have you seen try and jump over a moving car? Too many to count.....

Whoever said moving is easy please kill yourself. (not literally and not intended for anyone)

I'm supposed to go to Lexington, KY on business on july 8th.
However I make a stop in Atlanta to meet / greet realtors and see some apts.

The goal is on 9/2 to have my first 6 pack in my new home.
Anyway after I'm done with them, I plan to do a little yarding before my flight out.

The difference between yards here in the north and those in the south is quantity and quality.
Northern yards have limited amounts of older BMWs. Those that are found are either picked through, rusted up, wrong models than what I'm looking for or have already hit the crusher.

Now from memory mind you. The yards I frequented in GA... are God sends. Hopefully someone can chime in and let me know what to hit or what's still in operation.

Here's my short list

Strictly German Braselton, GA
Pick a Part, Fairburn, GA
A&S Lawrenceville (or was it Lithonia), GA
Pull a parts (All three or at least the ones on moreland and Buford Highway
Falcon Salvage Atlanta, GA

Any I'm forgetting?

Ill make my point now, but I wont be posting more about it, I dont need to have the last word.

Getting away with it is not what I'm getting at. I drive fast, a lot of us do. But out on the open road, and we dont post videos. He is doing it in the middle of a very populated city/town, where any one could walk out in front of him, or even pull out, not expecting some clown doing 90km/h in the middle of a city. Traffic laws arent put in place to be a nuisance. they are there to help protect other people

The fact of him not hurting anyone is nonsense. I gaurentee he would have crashed or hit a few people in his time. Its amazing what people will "believe" on the internet without thinking about it. Ask yourself, would you post a video of yourself being a dickhead and crashing into someone injuring them?
Or, in the event you do have evidence that he has never crashed, you can't deny it would happen sooner or later.
In anycase, a loss of life is never good, dont get me wrong. But sometimes you need to decide whos is better to loose given the options, and its better he is gone before he takes someone else. Your own government, and mine, and most all of them in the world makes that decision 1000 times a day.

My views are representative of my own, and in no way related to Bimmerfest or any other organisation i represent.

In other news, picked up another E34 in the weekend just gone, It has a set of Style 172s on it, anyone know the original manufacturer of these wheels? trying to determine if replicas or genuine. 8" wide seems a little low for M-sport wheels though

Today I was outside tinkering with the car and giving it a nice bath before joining in the July 4th festivities.
As I close the hood and begin to put my tools back in the box I see this little guy inspecting my work.

You may get a little girlish squeal out of me.

They have some curb rash; probably from running them stretched and not watching out for those nasty curbs that jump out in front of you Wonder how the other 3 look.

Would you have to deal with an offset problem?

I don't think there would be a problem with offset. I believe the e39's and e34's share similar offsets. The hub bore would be larger though, easily fixed with hub rings.
It's hard to find a set of wheels w/o curb rash lol. Mine are pretty jacked up from the po letting his wife drive.

Thinking of moving on in the car world. I am looking to spend 10-15k, stay well under 100k miles if possible, and have a manual trans if at all possible. I am foolishly partial to the German brands, and awd would be a plus.

Am I nuts to consider an Audi S4 from 2004-05? Rumour is Audi isn't the most reliable brand but, what a perfect set up, rippin V8 six speed and awd...

The only flaw I see in the 2000-02 AMG E55 is the auto box, other wise it is fast, comfortable and durable. I may really need awd, E430 4matic is a possibility too.

I like the '06 and up GTI quite a bit and could have one with pretty low miles. I never have been a fwd fan and I wont do the dsg.

Then the devil on my shoulder tells me e39 540/6... almost certainly a maintenance nightmare, something I want to avoid. My plan would be to find a 50-60k mile car and purchase a warranty. I have a guy I can trust to work on it. The warranty plan pretty much applies to all, I am trying to avoid all of the wrenching I am currently doing. I can not seem to resist pouring $$ into this e34 because it is 20 yrs old and it still deserves it

Other considerations, Jag S-type-R or maybe XKR, both autotragic, but superchargers are good, and so are Jag interiors/exteriors

Counsel me brothers

I'd avoid W210 Mercedes E-class models because they have a propensity for front spring perch failure due to hidden corrosion. The perches are covered in undercoating, but eventually the coating cracks in spots and moisture gets in. The perches are merely spot-welded to the frame -- a terrible engineering decision and the first serious sign of the marque's decline in quality, IMO.

If I lived at altitude I'd be looking for a car with a turbo for sure. VW TDI? You're looking at a timing belt in most VAG products, of course ... including Audi.

Front wheel drive is underrated for fun, especially in low traction. Left-foot braking can make even a Taurus rotate pretty nicely under the right conditions. Ask me how I know.
