Used BMW Maintenance Package

Hi I'm new to the forums. I just recently bought a '09 328xi with 26,000 miles. I have to take the car in for service in the next few days and I was quoted around $400 from the BMW dealer for Brake Fluid and a Vehicle Check. My car has a Factory Warranty until August of this year but I was curious as to how to maintenance package works. Isn't the prepaid maintenance standard in all newer BMW's and does that transfer over to used cars like the warranty does? I'm just not looking forward to paying $400+ for service. Any help is appreciated.

I would assume its 4 years/48k but original owner wasn't offered it at that time?

I'm not sure if the original owner was offered it or not. When I purchased it the dealer only mentioned the warranty. My question is isn't the prepaid maintenance included in the price? And would that be covered under a second owner?

Pre-Paid maintenance follows the car not the owner can't get a refund. Both my Mini Countryman and 335xi had it. I bought both cars used, the MINI ended up being a nice surprise because it had the extended maintenance the previous owner bought, but with the BMW it had 30k miles and I had to buy the 6yr 100k maintenance as the standard factory maintenance would run out within a year after purchase. I was told several times it follows the car and is a selling point should I decide to sell the car before the warranty ran out.

Yes. If you are under warranty you are under full maintenance for the 4 years 50,000 miles from the in service date on your car regardless of how many owners.

Maybe the dealer didn't understand (most likely) or you should go to another dealer.

That is correct. The only issue may be the timing as the Brake Fluid change is covered only every two years and the "Inspection" comes at 30,000 miles. So perhaps these items will be covered by your dealer as you get closer to the warranty expiration.

You might also check the dash computer as to when the next services are scheduled - see "Service Requirements" in the owner's manual.
