The OBX catback system is a great bargain and will leave you some funds in your $450 budget to get some other goodies too. I had one on my E36 and Karl (Zegerman) has one on his car currently.

Unless he's done an engine swap, mbeezy has a 318. The OBX and IE systems are for the 325/328.

Oops! Didn't even occur to me someone would be spending $450 on a exhaust system for their 318.......

Maybe the OBX Z3 1.9L exhaust could be fitted?

Doesn't the Z3 use a e30 rear suspension? I have a feeling it would be more likely to work on a ti that also uses a e30 rear not a sedan with a e36 rear end.

No, I had used an external microphone positioned next to the exhaust tips during the in-car videos.

As far as performance gains go, dc_wright conducted fairly solid before & after testing, and to everyone's surprise, he actually recorded a somewhat significant drop in his acceleration times. Go figure...

Otherwise, the OBX exhaust weights about 25lbs less than the stock exhaust, and does sound quite nice (which is the main appeal on these cars).

I didn't do it for a mod, I needed a muffler and it was a cheap option. There are no real tangible performance up grades on the e36 unless you supercharge or turbo it. The car is pretty much tuned to its highest potential as built. You may gain a few hp here and there with exhaust, intake and a chip, but nothing that's will change your hp numbers much. Mostly seat of the pants gains.

Actually I measured a 5% IMPROVEMENT in 0-50 mph times, not a decrease, from installing the OBX catback.

Sorry, poor wording choice on my part. By "drop in acceleration times", I meant that the amount of time it took you to reach 50mph had dropped, meaning you are accelerating more quickly.

What happened to my post above regarding the external microphone? It seems to have gone missing, and changed slightly in the above in-text quote.

I didn't do it. I don't generally edit posts without asking the poster first, and I didn't touch that one anyway.

It reads the same in your post and the quote.
