I asked again tonight, and they told me it was a regular check up - no error messages or anything. Idk...

Since I felt like this was superfluous, I figured I'd make the most of it and have them check out the driver's seat - same "shifting/loose" sensation in moderate to hard cornering that others have experienced. We'll see what they say. It wasn't bothersome enough to go through the hassle of bringing it in, but this seemed like a prime opportunity (as opposed to the last few times when I was worried about the potential of the "drivetrain malfunction" message).

We shall see tomorrow.

Nice call since she's in the shop anyway might as well have that drivers seat checked out.

Still strange on why your cars being check out since you had that done recently.

Haha. Not sure about "ABA," but it's about as plausible as any of my other theories.

Picked up my car today, and they said it was a regularly scheduled inspection. Nothing concrete was done. My first full service (oil, wipers, the works) was 1/22/13, and I got this notification to bring it in on Monday (3/26/13).

For those of you keeping count, I have 4 invoices before me starting on 1/22/13.

Seems like a pointless visit since they had my car for 5 days last month and they did the 32-point inspection at that time. Nevertheless, I'm glad nothing was wrong.

Did they provide you a detail inspection list? Are annual inspections required in your state?

Are you sure they did no software update?

They gave me the inspection sheet to sign off. The invoice doesn't say anything about software updates and they didn't mention anything - but as we've all learned, with BMW, what they say and what they do aren't always the same.

Seems a little suspicious they wanted you in so soon after your full service with no real reason. I'm betting there was a update of some kind.

That's what I was thinking at first and is why I asked if anyone else had heard anything. Seems like an update wouldn't be isolated to just me - at least some of the other '12 owners would've likely heard something.

The only idea that makes any sense to me is that they wanted to follow up on the multiple recent servicing visits I had throughout January and February. That may be the most benign and comforting scenario so my mind wants to believe that. Ever since the '13 engine upgrade I've stopped trying to predict BMW's intentions.

Drivetrain Malfunction... Again!!!

Today while waxing my car I noticed two things:

1. Missing anchor under the hood.
2. My tires had fallen to 32.5 psi front and 33 psi rear.

The yellow arrow in the attached pic shows the anchor/screw/bolt/thingy I'm talking about, and the red arrow points to the empty hole. Guess the service tech lost it and didn't think I'd notice? I don't know. Not a big thing, but I'd like to think a little more attention to detail is paid when they're working on my car. Hopefully they have a spare they can place next time I drop by.

I'm a little embarrassed by the tire pressures I reported above. I typically check them regularly, but I've been a bit lax regarding this over the last few months given the number of times the dealership's had my car. Every time they've done a "32-point inspection" before returning my car. I just reviewed my records, and #12 on the list is tire inspection, including pressure. I find it highly unlikely that I dropped from 38 psi to 33 psi in every tire since March 28th. It's really sad that I can't trust my dealer with something so basic.

The pressure can drop if there has been a dramatic change in the ambient temperature. However, I still take my car to Costco for an tire air check because they are typically at the wrong pressure after a service.

How many miles on the new fuel injectors?

They just changed/updated the software - no new fuel injectors. I've done about 600 to 750 miles since then.

It did get a bit cooler recently, but not dramatically. We were running in the 70s for a while then dropped to mid-40s to 50s. I don't know...

Sad to say, I have joined this club with not one, but 2 codes - Drivetrain malfunction and Chassis malfuntion - at different times but within 3 days of each other. ('13 650i MSport)
Question for the group - I drive a LOT and when the codes hit, I was 49K and change. I took pictures and obviously, they should be able to tell when this occured (while under warranty). Now the dealer is refusing to cover it because I had to make it back home and now have 50,070 miles on it. Anyone know what the law is with that or if it is just up to BMW NA? I've called them and the car is going in today. They basically told me that they 'might' cover it but I don't get the feeling that's going to happen.

I'd write to BMW NA. Even of technically the car is out of warranty, a major problem 70 miles over in such a new car should be covered, especially if the problem happened before the 50k.

Thanks southern. I've called them and started a case but the rep said they can't really do anything until the dealer gets the codes pulled (if they're still there.....). Sucks - I just bought a CF spoiler, brand new 20" competition package M6 wheels, a new mount for the phone and Megan Racing axle back exhaust. Figures..... :P

edit - I just restarted the car and backed it out of the garage - the code went away as soon as I put it in gear. Weird stuff.

Wish I had taken a pic when the Drivetrain Malfunction one came on but I was too freaked when it happened doing 70mph on the interstate. All I have the 'Chassis' - whatever that was/is.

This is total BS, 70 miles over and they don't want to cover it. I would raise hell big time, call
GM of the dealership and BMWNA as well! That Dealership needs to outed for their lack of customer service, they don't deserve to be in business.

Mine have always occurred right after start up when I'm leaving my garage or parking lot. That's really scary that it happened at speed.

Make sure you post some pictures when you add the new components to you car!

Just got it back from dealer and they found codes for a misfire on cylinder 4. They say they ran all diagnostics per 'protocol' and a few more but could not find anything wrong. So they cleared the codes, gave me a free oil change (that was nice) and sent me on my way. I told them I had a case with BMWNA but they said there was nothing additional I needed to do on that end...I dunno. She'll be headed for her weekly trip from NC to FL on Sunday so we'll see.
