and besides, if you ever take your car to the dealer for service, they would check your vin and if not fixed they would fix it then

I called the dealership today and they said they didn't hear anything about this yet. Called another dealership and they said there was nothing under my VIN but to call back in a few days to make sure.

Very common that dealers are clueless to recalls or technical service bulletins. When I bought my y2k maxima I had to print the tsb on the transmission control module to prove there was a problem! The recall was just announced and is not even referenced on the BMW USA site as yet. Even though it includes the 2011 model year I seriously doubt my cable has started to disintegrate already!

That's what I think too. I'm hoping everything's ok. If there's a problem I'm sure ill get a notification from the dealer or BMW North America.

I read the announcement on TV and according to the news, owners of all affected models will begin receiving notices in March...

If you go to www.realoem.com and put in the last 7 digits of your VIN, it will tell you your production month and year... Wife's car is outside the zone, mine is in... Will have to contact my SA in the next week or so and get scheduled...

Or you could just look at the label in the driver's side door jamb. It has both the VIN and the month and year of manufacture.

When its an OFFICIAL RECALL then when you take it for service they will check to see if your car has the recall fixed

at this point the media says BMW to Recall, not BMW Has recalled

geeessss

I'm going to call my dealer first thing tomorrow morning. My car fits the criteria perfectly. I'm glad we know about it sooner rather than later. The news is still a bit irksome - I just bought this car a few months ago.

Thank you for posting this for us.

Take it in for what? The dealer will not have the info yet, will not have the parts yet, etc. Relax, this is not a big deal. Let the guys use some other cars to play with first. If your car is fine now it will be fine later.

Good point.

But: For other owners of older cars it may be of more relevance. For example, we used to own a 2007 E91 which had a worrisome occasional non start issue. We could never quite diagnose the problem. I now firmly believe, based on the recall notice description, our car had exactly this problem.
