I'm compiling stuff for the dealership to address. Back in August, they changed my oil on the "1 year - low mileage" premise but left 2900 miles on the CBS counter. I am now -360 on the CBS for the oil, but due for a brake flush in April. Basis this recall, I'm thinking wait till late March and get all three things addressed in one swoop.

Car has had absolutely zero issues related to this up till this point, so I'm not frantic to get in to have it fixed.

I will be very interested to see if BMW make this a global recall or just for the North American market as the reported incident happened in Canada.
Sounds very similar to the the previous 5 and 6 series model recall with their battery issues....http://www.caradvice.com.au/165140/b...cles-affected/

2006 has batteries in the trunk. Wonder why it didn't affect those cars

I'm curious to know how invasive this cable replacement is. If they have to go from the battery well in the trunk to behind the glovebox (as it seems from the NHTSA document) they're going to have to rip up a lot of interior trim to get at this and replace it. That's always a recipe for introducing squeaks, creaks and rattles into a once silent vehicle.

well I just popped the hood and checked out my battery cable on my 2006-335i, it appears the battery cable come up on the drivers side and then over to the passenger side, there is a small plastic cover at a junction box, I pulled the plastic cover off. the main cable is then attached by a bolt, then there is a smaller cable adjacent to the main cable that goes into the fire wall. Both connectors appear to be ok, nuts are tight, no corrosion. If you read the notice posted is says a battery cable connector could be at fault. Unless you cut the heat shrink tube off the battery cable you cannot tell if you have an issue, I doubt I will take my car back just for them to muck with it. Now if I take the car in for service for another reason and they fix it, then ok but not making a special trip

I also think we should be compensated by BMW at a inconvenience rate of 125 bucks an hour while we wait for it to be fixed,

Hondo

They are only doing the connectors, not the whole cable. In the past you could not get the conectors for the cable of the front distribution block.

My dealer is fully aware of the recall but stated that the official letters to affected owners will be issued in late Mar or early Apr and that dealerships don't have the necessary parts on hand at this time. Guess we'll just have to wait.

Trunk locked

I sent my car in for the recall fix and when I got the car back, the trunk can no longer be opened by the key fob nor with the front button.

Don't they have a check-list to make sure all basic functionalities are still working before returning the car? This is the 2nd time I had to bring a car in twice to get something fixed.

Now you're talking sense! Not allowed!

I have mine scheduled for next week - hopefully I have no problems.

They accidentally turned the valet switch over in the glovebox. Easy fix, switch it back yourself.

Mine is being worked on tomorrow... SA says they have to remove the glovebox, and a little trim, the rocker trim piece and pull back the carpet... The splice will be in the footwell. Good point about making sure everything still works (key fob opening, etc.). Will see how it goes!

Ridiculous. Time to be 'comped' something from the apparel dept., otherwise you can't give them top marks on the service report!

You're right. Thanks for the tip.

You'd expect humans to be working there at the dealership instead of Neanderthals?

Exactly what i did... 2013 328i with only 500 miles oni it... Nice enough, but i'll stick with my car... Got it back today, no issues, every thing seems to work, and no obvious damage to the car...

I'm just going to wait for my next 'CBS' oil change. In the meantime I bought a fire extinguisher just in case. I'll ask for a morning appointment to bring the car in...that's when the service dept. donuts are fresh and plentiful.

Brought mine in for an oil change in Ottawa yesterday and as a part of the maintenance they replaced the battery cable. They also washed/detailed the entire car inside and out (which is funny because it had just been done on Saturday/Sunday). They also left me with a jug of windshield washer fluid and a cannister of window cleaner in the back seat.

I hope they didn't do any damage when they took part of the interior apart? Did it take the 2-3 hours they suggest?

Since the recall affects cars as far back as '07, I'm in no hurry to get it done. I figure the longer I wait, the more accomplished the techs will be at performing the procedure.

The job was done by noon, car dropped off at 9am.

I didn't even know the interior had to be taken apart. Everything was as it was before, but cleaner!

I took this in a week ago and had it fixed. My dealer knew all about it and there was no hassle. If your dealer does not know about it, get another dealer as he is a loser. My dealer said the fix is done at the fuse box, not at the batter in the trunk.
