3 BMWs driving Berkeley Hills Wed night - lost a 4th M3!!
This past Wed evening at about 9pm three BMWs (00 M Coupe, 00 Z3 Coupe, 00 Z3 Roadster) headed out on a night run. We headed through Berkeley up to Centennial Drive, crossed over Grizzly Peak Blvd, went down into Tilden Park, then drove Wildcat Canyon Road not once, not twice, but three times! Twice down and once up.
While heading towards Tilden Park we past another non-BMW who proceeded to wave and smile at us. We passed them again heading into Tilden. It turned out the people in this car were BMW owners as well as they quickly went home and jumped in their M3. Since we drove Wildcat Canyon Road three times they had plenty of time to catch up to us, and sure enough on our third time down we passed them in their M3. They stopped and waved and proceeded to follow us. We later crossed onto San Pablo Damn Road and pulled over to chat. I spoke to the driver of the M3 briefly and I believe he said his name was Kyle. He was with a girl in the passenger seat who indicated she did autox. We all agreed to keep driving and to stop later and chat some more. We proceeded to go through Orinda and drove to Moraga where we took Canyon Road to Pinehurst Road, up to Skyline Blvd. Well, sadly we lost the M3 after heading onto Canyon Road out of Moraga. When we arrived at the intersection of Pinehurst and Skyline we waited for about 10 minutes and they never appeared. I am fairly confident that I know what happened. Canyon Road hits Pinehurst Road at a T, we went right and I don't think the car in front of the M3 waited so when they arrived they took a gamble and went left. That's my best guess anyway. We contemplated going back to look for them but it seemed possibly dangerous as Pinehurst is a very small one lane route and I pictured driving down to find them and them driving up to catch up!
I feel really bad that we lost the M3!
I'm hoping someone reading this might know who this M3 drivers was, or better yet that the M3 driver himself might see this and read it!
Important lesson - if everyone in a driving group doesn't know where you're going be sure to wait at all intersections if you have any interest in keeping the group together and/or avoiding people getting lost!
