Install an E90 M3 front jack point
I installed an E90 M3 front jack point on my 2001 M Coupe. The S54 M Coupes have a partial plastic underbody that covers the front cross member that can make it a little tricky to jack from when putting the car on jack stands.
The following parts are needed:
one JACK FIXTURE, 220.127.116.113.434, $12.62
two BLIND RIVETS - A6,0X18-AL-ST, 07.11.9.903.402, $0.60 each
The jack fixture is asymmetric. One side has a wedge cut out of it at the base and the other side has a long taper that goes from the base to almost the top of jack point. I mounted mine with the wedge side facing the rear of the car so it could fit tightly against the underbody plastic.
I found the center of the front cross member, put the jack fixture in the center, and then marked the underbody with a marker so I would have an approximation on how much material needed to be removed from the underbody once the jack fixture was in place.
Once the underbody was off the car I found the center of the crossmember and used the jack fixture as a template to mark where the holes needed to be drilled. I then measured the rivet body, used a slightly smaller drill bit, and drilled the holes. I bought a cheap heavy duty pop rivet gun from Habor Freight and riveted the fixture in place.
I trimmed the underbody plastic with a dremel cutoff wheel and sanding drum.
This same modification can be made to a S50/S52 M3 or a S52 M Coupe, but you will not need to trim the underbody.
