cracking rubber seal on top of windshield

I just noticed today that the rubber seal on the top of the windshield is cracking. Has this happened to anybody else's car? My ext warranty runs out in November so my next trip will def include me bringing this to their attention. Honestly, I'm a little surprised to see something like this but I guess I can add this to my growing list of repairs made to this car.

It is a known problem in sunbelt states. The molding will continue to crumble, but it will not cause the windshield to leak. The "correct" procedure is to remove the windshield in order to replace the molding; although some people have managed to replace it without windshield removal.

Definitely let your dealer know. I am not sure it is covered under extended warranty, though. If not, you may want to take it to a top line body shop and have them replace it.

it's a common problem on e90 vehicles where the rubber seal cracked and this should cover under warranty. Had my replaced at no charge.

Did you have to jump through hoops to get this covered or did you mention the problem and they said they would cover it? Curious to know because if it's a known problem, why wouldn't it be covered under warranty as it's a manufacturer defect?

I replaced the one on my car and it was a complete pain in the rear. The extended warranty I got through BMW does not cover cosmetic items. If still under the original factory warranty it should be covered. This has been my only gripe with the car to date. It's exterior rubber trim isn't up to the standards and I see other spots that will need replacing that aren't easily done such as around the rear window.

Has anybody had the dealer replace this trim without removing the windshield and if so, how much did they charge you?
