Rear Fog Lights and Hood Gas Spring Clips 87 325I

I finally realized that there is a socket for a fog lamp bulb in each rear light socket assembly. There is a plastic bar to prohibit placing a bulb in the lense portion of the assembly. Anyone try cutting it out and installing a bulb? Next question, the funny looking clips that retain the gas hood lift spring, any part numbers? What is the magic to removing them without breaking or have one flying into the recesses of the engine bay? How about re-installing them........is it just a simple push on? Also the clip closest to the front end is very tight to get at...any suggestions? other than getting someone else to do it?

Thanks,

Bruce W in Payson AZ....not many Bimmers in this town!

Retaining clip for hood shock: 51231943279

For the tail light, you'll have to get another socket for that spot, and wire it in, but it's certainly do-able and desireable

New gas shocks come with all clips and mounting hardware. Pry the spring clip with a narrow screw driver just enough to put the ball in or out of the socket. If the spring clip is pulled out or has been pushed sideways it will need to be readjusted to its proper place with needle nose pliers and the narrow screw driver.

There are many Youtube how-to gas spring replacement videos.

Thanks Onager, The type of connection you are refering to is correct for later model and american vehicals; however, the old bimmer needs a galvanized clip that looks something like a body moulding clip.

Hornhospital,

Thanks for the part number, now if only I can keep from having the hood fall on my bald head. The sockets are already there, as is the wiring and the switch in the dash. I will let you knw how it goes. Thank you very much for the help.

No, they don't, at least not from Pelican and AutohausAZ; new set for '85 325e from Autohaus, part #SG402001, no clip; two new sets from Pelican for an '84 633 and '85 635, part #51-23-1-869-147-M24, no clips.

I did get a set for my '93 325is that had a clip. One out of four it was supposed to have.
