Hi everyone! Meet BMO!!!!!

This is my BMO. He's a 1997 528i. Built in March of '97! he is a 5-speed version painted in Metallic Montreal Blue! He is a project that I am very proud of! 160k miles on the Chassis. I have not driven him in 5 months because he is at the mechanics awaiting his brand-new motor! When I get him back next week, his new motor will give him a new lease on life and I will begin the project of doing a full upgrade and restoration on him! As you can see, his paint and interior are basically flawless already! I have big plans for BMO and I will document our progress here on the forum!

some kind of cartoon...

...BMO first appears as a cartoon character on the Cartoon Network show Adventure Time with Finn and Jake, he was created by Pendleton Ward, show creator. BMO also appears in the very first Adventure Time comic issue. BMO was originally going to be called Raye.....

The gap is between the people who had this stuff in the early 90's and are now watching cartoon network with their kiddies, and everyone else!

What's even more interesting is that I'm more into cartoons now, in my 30's, than when I was a kid...They're even more interesting when looking at them through the eyes of experience...BMO is pronounced "Beemo" by the way - it's more of a play on the word "Bimmer" than any actual relation to the character on Adventure Time...(BMO is HILARIOUS, though...)

ANYWAY!

So back to BMWs, eh?

Exactly one week and counting until I get BMO back from the doctor - after taking a week off to cruise the Bay Area backroads on my trusty steed once more, I'm going to be looking at my first modifications. Does anyone have any experience with updating a prefacelift E39 to post-facelift exterior lights? I'm awfully tired of the "yellow haze..." What are the best aftermarket lighting kits out there? Smoked or clear?

Your opinions matter!

Yeah, my kids watch that show. Great cartoon. BMO is the rather lovable living game console that cohabitates with the two main characters. Watch this clip, and that's all you need.

No way man, we are going to keep going about BMO!

BMO, your car, in many ways it is a very fitting name, the cartoon character and the e39 both represent the tip top of their technology as the née plus ultra of their day. That day, that Era has came and went, but they are both still very good and will serve you well and put a great smile on your face.

Smoked lights would be cool, like a pair of shades, BMO would like.

Ha!

Very insightful, StPike!

I think smoked lights would great, too!

To the poster who commented about my concave steering wheel: Don't worry! The airbag is in there! If you look at any pictures of '97 interiors - they're all like that! Thanks for looking out, though!

Wow!

I found a picture on Google Images of the smoked headlights on a Montreal Blue E39 with the M5 bumper (which I want to do at some point, as well!!)

Looks pretty slick!

How quick is BMO from 0-60? I have the auto version and the specs give mine 8.8 secs. Looking to do a possible auto to manual swap sometime next year. ... maybe!

Hi,

The wheels are aftermarket ones, for some reason I thought of the Mille Miglia brand, I might be totally wrong though!!

What plans do you have for the car overall? with a new engine then most of your maintenence and reliability work won't be needed which is what 98% of responses would be if you were still using the original engine.

There's lots of products you can get for the E39 and covers every aspect - exterior and interior styling options, audio upgrades, wheels/tyres, suspension, exhausts and power train upgrades.

Cheers, Dennis!

Before I knew I had a hole in the side of the motor, I was getting a disappointing 8 seconds or so. With the new motor ($4k well spent if you ask me!) I should be getting 6.7 - 7.1 seconds! Don't settle with your automatic - when I started looking for a 5-series, it HAD to be a stick! Do the conversion - you won't be sorry!

Hey, Dennis!

I'm going to do the whole facelift upgrade for sure (euro lighting, M Body Panels, Shadowline trim) and the sport suspension. I also want to add an upgraded cooling system and some minor performance mods...down the road, I may supercharge to up the HP but, that's not a mandatory thing...

You're a genius, man! My wheels are Mille Miglia! I did a google search and BAM! There they are!

Thank you!
