Why doesn't the power liftgate close?
The Ford Escape and Kia Sorento have power liftgates that close with a kick or key FOB respectively. The GLK has a drivers seat button as well as key fob. Maybe there are others.
I took at face value in the BMW X3 Brochure that the X3 power liftgate closes with the key fob. But according to this post, it's disabled in the US and Canada. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...4&postcount=15 Interestingly, the Audi Q5 also does not close under power. How is the Mercedes, Ford and Sorento do but not BMW and Audi? I know the party line is safety but they all have pressure switches so how is it not safe? |

Umm because you just removed 2 armfuls of packages? Or your 4' tall kiddo put their backpack in the back after school and can't reach the button?

IMO, easier to hit liftgate button than fumbling with key FOB.

Not when you are sitting in the driver's seat after remotely opening the tailgate for someone to put something in. Ford's foot swipe beats the switch but even still, if all you are doing is going into the house or something close, the FOB lets you close it from there and is better than going all the way out again, especially in bad weather.

). Just curious, do you own an X3? I don't see any reference.

I have re-coded both the cabin button and keyFOB "close" options. And I use it regularly. Haven't harmed anyone yet ;-)

Me too... along with a few other coded fixes.

Makes no sense to me, either. My Lexus RX driver's buttons or fob would open/close tailgate and/or windows.

^this. The feature is coded out for North American vehicles, just like the convenience close of the windows and electric folding mirrors (if so equipped) via the key fob.

Question on liftgate operation. How does a seated driver unlock the liftgate/boot lid from inside the car for someone outside to load something in the trunk? Is it by pressing the central lock switch in between the air vents in the dash?

There is a small button on the left side of the footwell that opens the liftgate.

I blame the lawyers for the missing feature in the US. If everyone wasn't always suing to make a quick buck we would have code out features.

Does anyone know if the GLK allows remote closure? Like the BMW, it's in the brochure. Last edited by ErnestHouse; 02-21-2013 at 02:53 PM. Reason: also |

Not sure on the GLK, I looked at one but didn't test that feature. |
