Dash issue

This is what my dash does when it is below 50 degrees F, is it normal? It takes 30 min to one hour to show all the way up.

that is definitely not supposed to be like that.

What one is for mine, my dash looks like none of those. This is after 30min idle with heat on full.

google search E34 dash pixels. E39 and E38 guys CONSTANTLY have this problem. Being as i'm not an either of those, and my pixels are fine, I dont have much to contribute off the cuff...

So time to resurrect this old beast. I still have the issue after replacing the ribbon cable. Last time i removed the cluster when doing the faces i checked the connections and they were fine, and clean. If i press down on the dash above the cluster they all light up fine. Also light up fine once the car is warm. But still nags me because if the OBC wants to tell me something before i leave it cannot.

I see that here in Cali in both extreme cold and heat. Extreme cold makes 'bars' show up and extreme heat (120+F in-car temps) make the display go solid orange...

Same here. I've had mine since 2012 and it's always reacted like this to cold and heat...

Do a search on this board for the "cold weather fix". It involves removing and opening the cluster, and then replacing the electrolytic capacitors soldered into the circuit board. I have the same problem with my E34, but I haven't been able to do the repair yet. The hardest part may be finding the proper value capacitors (capacitance in microfarads AND voltage). Let me know how it goes, since you'll probably get to it before I do.

I'm having an issue with my cluster after changing the bulbs. Only my tachometer works now. The gas gauge and temp gauge work, but wrong readings. They're about a quarter off. My speedo doesnt work at all even with doing the cluster test. Would it be easier to buy a new cluster?? Don't want to mess with soldering any capacitors. Anyone in the Chicago area on this forum??
