93 325i Part out or Fix?

So here are some of the cars problems.

Both fenders need to be replaced

Drivers door needs to be replaced

Hood needs to be replaced

Needs new struts and springs

Oil is getting into the spark plug well (I think I fixed the problem)

Threading on the head for the valve cover studs and Coil pack studs needs to be re threaded.

Leaks some oil (I think not sure yet)

Leaks Transmission Fluid from the cooler (I have all the stuff except the clutch disc for a 5 speed swap)

The exhaust just blew the other day.

Drivers seat has a minor rip (No big deal.)

The car has roughly 240k miles

2 of the windows need new window regulator sliding pivot clips


I love working on the car, and I don't mind fixing all of these problems. But is it really worth throwing all of the money into it to get it back in good shape? I just thought I would get some input from you guys before I made a final decision.

Meh. I'd say part it out.

For 3-4k you could pick up a newer 328.

Thats what I was thinking. It would cost me about 2k+ to replace all of the parts. Plus all of the time I would have to put into it.

Pfffft, fun stuff to fix or replace. Junkyards are your friend. But that is just me, and I am a tinkerer. Plus insane. An insane tinkerer... German cars are like crack to me.

Haha, yea I like to tinker with things to. Especially cars. The only bad thing about junk yards is the parts don't last as long depending on what you get. Plus it's hard to find color matching body parts at a junk yard.

Well, one thing I learned from junkyard hopping was when I find the parts I need, I grab them. I then sand the mismatched panels down, prime them, then prep them and send it over to the body shop to be sprayed. Saves some money that way. Plus they fix any imperfections. Get the part(s), install, enjoy.

One thing that I do with my car(s) is that I don't think short term. Never. I take into consideration what I need to do now, budget, save, buy, repair, and then at the end - enjoy.

It has never proved me wrong. The only thing to curb is your impatience. Just keep thinking long term and buy properly. New doesn't always mean awesome when you can go to the junkyard and buy it for much cheaper and in just as good condition.

This is only my advice, and only intend it that way. What you do with your car is obviously your decision, but in case you get the thought about restoring it, I figure I just give some advice.

I never thought of doing that lol. How much does it run you to get them sprayed? Also is the color match up good? Yea I think long term when it comes to my car too. I'm just now learning how curb my impatience. I usually think the faster the better. But most the time that's not the case. I agree new doesn't always mean better, but when it comes to other things besides body panels it's usually better to buy things new. In my case at least. Thanks for the advice it's really been helpful.

Actually, I should add a footnote (before Jonesin and zeGerman jump down my throat), I recommend buying gaskets new, spark plugs new, brake pads new, tires new, radiator (depending on condition) new, water hoses new, water pump new, anything that has a critical mechanic function that has to be new (even torque to yield bolts) should be new.

Oh and oil and gas being new doesn't hurt either.

Yea, ik that haha. I always buy that kind of stuff new. How much does it run you to get body panels sprayed?

Well, if I were to get everything done at the shop, it would cost me around $300. But since I do the prep work, it only costs me $115. If any blemishes need to be fixed, maybe $120. But I don't know how your shops would operate. But it wouldn't hurt to ask.
