Goodbye Bob

I am no longer the owner of a 2006 330xi.

Me and Bob had an amazing run. I do miss him. A tear came to my eye. The fiancée laughed at me.

Tomorrow i head to the dealerships to scope out my ED.

Btw. Sold it to carmax. It was painless and Jeff was wonderful through the process.

Did you get a good price at Carmax, Furbster? When I tried to sell my TSX at Carmax the numbers they offered me were laughable.

Wow, you didn't waste any time dumping your faithful friend. Why the rush? You just spent a chunk of change to get Bob his own parking spot. Why not wait until you at least have a firm plan in place for his replacement? What if the sequestration goes into effect? Dude, you're low man on the totem pole. You could be out of a job next week and now you've gone a sold your paid for ride.

Guys, it's not gonna be much longer before ol' furby does the same to this here E90 forum and all his so called friends.

Kt...they gave better price than dealer by 2k. It was easy and worth it. I am happy

Ttru- i kissed Bob before, and its been a tough past few days. I wont lie i love that car. I hope he gets someone who will love him like i did. Consultants typically get more work in bad economies when companies dont want to hire. Dont worry i could never leave my bestest buds. You guys will have me forever and ever and EVER!

Tomorrow it will be time to sign those dotted lines and do ED.

Heheh. Ed will be quick, not our honeymoon. So will be just me going there for 3-4 days. We are doing it to save some cash. About 3000 in car savings... 1200 ticket... 800 expenses and save 1000.

So i will need a speedy itinerrary to hit some fun places, autobahn, and have fun

I was +$6K selling to CarMax over the trade offered by the BMW dealer when I bought the 335is. Could be luck of the draw & will see what the 330 brings in when the 135is gets off the boat.

furb, I'm still curious why you decided to get rid of Bob now rather than wait until you were closer to having his replacement. Do you and the betrothed have an extra set of wheels?

European Delivery.

$3500 off the price of the car (and you CAN negotiate from there), temporary German registration with very good insurance, and the chance to be treated quite nicely when you pick your car up at the factory.

Makes a wonderful supplement to a vacation. Saves you a bunch of change on renting a car in Europe. We loved ours.

What does shipping it to the US cost?

Or have they installed that trans-Atlantic tunnel?

Come on Bemo, you know me! Sides Bear Notch was training no? I can't wait to try launch control. Turn off all traction control and do it (parking lot obviously)

Actually, the soon-to-be Mrs. Furby wanted to get rid of the old car because we had a few recent high bills (4000) in repairs. She would rather have it under warranty

Shipping is handled through the traditional destination cost. Really you are saving the 7%.

FYI - I am working with Adrian Avilla from South Atlantic BMW. OMG, so much better then the nonsense with the dealerships I had to deal with today. Let's see some of the lies:

1) We can't give you anything but ED MSRP, because BMW doesn't pay us anything on ED so we have to make up this money. But look, you can do standard american delivery at a cheaper price

2) I told the guy on the phone I wanted to work from invoice and base line and up. In person he said that would not happen.

3) Limited supply of 335is and too much demand. Yet there were plenty of 335is on the lot

4) Limited allocation pool. They can't give at invoice because they are allocated too limited amount

5) "I will give you a price nobody can beat. Just promise to buy from me". When I got to the car I noticed the guys sell price was $5000 above invoice

6) "We can't discount under ED MSRP. Not allowed." While leaving the dealership "hold on, we can reduce the price by $1500"

7) "The extra MF tacked on is because the financing group makes us do it. We can't remove it"

Let's just say the dealership experience were not nice. Then I called Adrian and it was a 4 minute call. He told me 195 doc fee, plus 895 on top of ED invoice and the rest was taxes, state fees, and baseline on ED. Got the quote, I sent him my info about 30 minutes ago. Got approved by BMW FS website.

This is actually true. One reason many (the majority even) BMW dealerships will not sell ED cars below ED MSRP. The 7% savings you get comes directly out of the CSI money the dealer has the potential to earn on a U.S. delivery sale. This info is in the ED wiki in the ED forum.

7) "The extra MF tacked on is because the financing group makes us do it. We can't remove it"

This is true, too. There is a .0003 markup on the MF for EDs and you'll find that even Adrian can't do anything about it. BMWFS makes/waives your second lease payment to compensate for the fact your car is in transit, but this is how they make up the cost of that little "gift".

What is MF?

Since this discussion is about dealers I'm tempted to say it has something to do with copulating with a maternal figure...

Money Factor, the lease equivalent of the interest rate. One current money factor is .0013, multiply that by 2,400 to convert it into an interest rate, .0013 x 2,400 = 3.12%. You can plug that interest rate into a balloon note calculation using the residual value as the balloon amount and you will get the same monthly payment as when you use a lease calculator.

In the Ask a Dealer forum there is a sticky that explains leases in detail and even shows you how to calculate a lease by hand. It's actually quite easy.
