What you have to do is get a 32G USB drive, format it in fat32. Download all the files, use winzip or winar to unzip the first file, it will unzip all the others. Extract the large .img file in 7-zip. This will create one file and a folder. copy those to the root of the USB drive or extract with 7-zip directly to the root of the USB drive. Insert the USB drive into the glove box usb port. Go through the idrive process to recognise the external drive. This will automatically start the installation process.

The file size is incorrect. The PKGDB folder is about 30gb, your has it at about 22gb. Did you download all 23 parts into one folder? It looks like you may be missing some. I downloaded all of the files to one folder on my desktop, then opened part01 and copied the IMG file out of the RAR file (see pic). I then launched the IMG file and I was able to copy the config.nfm file and PKGDB folder to the root of the USB drive.

The one thing I noticed after the upgrade is that when I check the Navigation software version, it is blank. It used to show 2009.1, but now the screen is blank when I try to check version information. Has anyone run into this?

I am in the process of upgrading from a 2008 550i sport to a 2009 750i. Can't wait - as I am hoping to seal the deal tomorrow. Wish me luck!

I still cannot see the new version ID, it shows blank. If I try to run the update again it finishes within 5 minutes and asks to restart the system. It still does not show any version info.

Happy it worked out well for you as it did for me. the enter address thing does make sense before the version will popup.

and yes...$50 sure beats $500 for a very simple procedure

It looks like the Nav updated to 2013 but the version information still shows blank. The only way I know this is that when entering an address, a little white circle shows up on the gas gauge, which I never saw before. Any other way to confirm its 2013? I waited several days for it to update.

Sorry to tell you but you're on your own here since I don't think anyone else had this issue. Try to do the update process again maybe

Thanks CoCo, worked like a charm. My 2009 750i build date is 03/09. Just a few observations to clarify some questions per my experience:

1. The initial password is needed at the WinRar stage.
2. My opened image is huge at 31,406,948,352.
3. The 7zip program then yields a pgkdb folder of 22,821,019,846,162 or 21.2 GB.
4. You also need the config.nfm file. Only the pgkdb folder and config.nfm file should be visible on the memory stick.
5. Only a flash memory stick of 32GB will work. $17 on sale at MicroCenter. Be sure and remove the included files via cut/paste if you wish to save them. Mine was able to be Fat32 formatted. Free programs are available online: Fat 32 Format by Ridgeline Consultants ...if you have problems, or if your stick is larger and doesn't include the option of Fat32 formatting.
6. The car automatically recognizes the update when inserted in the glovebox USB port within about 2-3 mins...proceed with the i-drive through the menu.
7. Enter activation code.....about 45 mins to success and reboot of Nav system.
8. The update progress option/bar only appears during the downloading.
9. Yes, .....activate a new map destination and the new version will appear..... North American Premium 2013 !!!!
10. SUCCESS !!!

This process is indeed time intensive, but quicker if you use multiple computers and use both download sites simultaneously. Just copy all 23 files into one folder and follow CoCo's instructions....and as the man said, "ENJOY your ULTIMATE driving machine".

Just wanted to provide an update.. It definitely looks as though it's the 2013 version, but the nav system version still shows blank and when clicking on 'Last Destinations' it's says "Please Wait" but after a couple hours of driving still doesn't display any previous destinations. When trying to do the update again it completes within two minutes and restarts but still does the same.
