NAV Update

Are there any alternatives to upgrading via the USB drive? My 2009 750 was built in 06/2009, but unlike others, I cannot update the Navigation Unit. I have extracted the one folder and the on file to the USB drive yet when I insert the USB drive into the USB port in the glovebox nothing happens.

Is there an update to the main software on the head unit before I can update the NAV this way? Can I or do I need to update with DVD disc (if so does anyone know how)? Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

I bought the 32gb map update from the dealer on USB for about $45 3 months ago. Updated maps perfectly after purchasing FSC code separately. Sold map update stick on Ebay for $40. Much less hassle and cost me $5 for the software. Just another option for those of you having trouble and wasting tons of time.

Or if you can't update via USB, you may be able to get disks from dealer and then resell if you wish.

Sorry to hear all your trouble. As I mentioned above. With your 2012, you should easily be able to get the USB stick for about $50 from your dealer and update. Just resell then for a minimal loss. Good luck!

Fyi

So I took my car into the dealership to have the CIC firmware updated. I wanted the ability to update via the USB port in the glovebox. So 2 days later I get a call from the SA saying that they finished the udpate, but now the car will not start. He said that they are at a standstill; they have opened a case with BMW engineering. As of now they have no time table on when I might get the car back, hell they don't know what is wrong....BEAUTIFUL!!!

i had exactly the same issue about 3 weeks ago!!! car was there for a week! they tried to explain me what the issue was but the fact of matter is that they had no clue.
What ended up is that they connected the car directly to BMW for remote reprogramming and that solved it

I have heard of the car experiencing problems following the upgrade, and it being a nightmare to repair. Mine went without a hitch, but I'm out $250 ($50 off coupon). Good luck on that. I wish I was aware of this trick of using a usb as I surely would have tried it first.

I am glad to see hackers are getting into system successfully. Very impressive. Keep up the good work.

Guys I'm just about to drop this thread. I'm getting so many PM's with questions that if you read the thread entirely and maybe also look at the pic i posted, you won't ask!
Sorry, I'm far from not being helpful and I kinda feel bad for not answering you all but it's just too much

Just a bump for anyone that needs to try and figure out what to do to upgrade their navigation.

There should be no reason to ask for a PM from anyone. Just read the thread and try it on your own.

The direct link to the torrent file is in post #58 of the thread as

Attached Files
BMW_CIC_NAVIGATION_NORTH_AMERICA_2013.torrent.txt (217.6 KB, 27 views)

Download file to USB Stick. (32GB size needed)
Insert USB stick into port in glovebox.
If car recognizes file to upgrade maps, you are good to go.
Get FSC code for your car(e-mail address for Sergej can be found in the thread on e90post)
Enter activation code.
Takes 40-45 minutes to load up maps and reboot system.
Navigation can still be used while update is in progress.
To get back to update progress screen, while on Nav screen, press options button and then scroll for update status and select.
After completing update, remember to remove USB stick, otherwise the next time you start up it will again ask if you want to update the maps.

I was able to update my wife's, 2009 E93 335i w/ 1-31-09 build, my 2009 750Li w/ 4-28-09 build and also my friend's 2010 E64 650i w/ 6-25-2010 build date.

All in all costs less than a tank of gas.

Good luck.

My car was built in 06/2009 and I could never get the glovebox USB to recognize my flash drive.

My car went in for service to replace a camera and they had to update my software files. Today I was able to download the 2013 files via the USB in the glovebox.

Thanks Coco!

Does this update include Google maps of just street level updates?
BTW, my USB is not recognized, most likely the software on my car needs an update as MY is April 2009.
