Munich Hotel Problem Apr 16-18

Seems there is a big trade fair in Munich when we are taking delivery of our 135i on April 16 and the BMWNA recommended hotels are full. Any suggestions? We would be OK with a good B & B and wouldn't mind staying up to 20 miles +/- outside Munich.

Try the Marriott Courtyards and Residence Inn, Easy Access to the Welt via the underground.

BAUMA - construction and work vehicles. A HUGE international tradeshow at the old Munich airport that occurs every 3 years; attendance this year is projected to be > 475,000 and they all need a place to sleep that week. I booked my room in 2010 and already have my hotel reservations for 2016 BAUMA as do most exhibitors. You will find a room but it will be expensive. Hotels in the city center are undoubtedly booked, I suggest looking in the Bogenhausen or Garching areas

+1 you might even try to get it through Priceline. Marriott is a good place to stay. We stayed there on all 4 of our ED trips, It very convenient to the U bahn. Good luck
cheers

Munich Hotel Problem is BIGGER than I thought

Thank you X!, dkreidel and vern. We appreciate your responses. In the meantime, our research has led us to conclude that what we need to do is AVOID Munich for that week. The hotels have gone into the gouge mode and there is not a decent price on anything. As an example, a room that normally goes for $275 Euros a night is priced at $1400 Euros. All the prices for other available rooms we checked were similarly atmospheric.

So the solution is, we are picking up the 135i and high-tailing it out of town to get as far away as possible. We will spend time in Munich at the end of the trip, not the beginning.

Thanks, again.

We may have a room due to one our staff's cancellation - I'll check in the morning. Hotel is Westin Grand Munich Arabellapark - not central Munich but a 5 minute walk to the U-bahn; I think our rate is ~200 euro.

You may be better off getting out of town because München in manic during BAUMA - tough to get into restaurants due to hordes of tradeshow yutz's

Thanks, dkreidel. That's what we're thinking too. Even if we do get a room, the trade show crowd is going to make it a zoo. We've definitely decided to do Munich the next week when all is more normal.

Just a thought...stay outside of Munich and just travel in to pick your car up.

Maybe stay at the Kempinski Munich Airport the day you arrive and taxi to the Welt, then leave?

Or see if you can move your travel plans, maybe?

Good luck!

Had this same problem for my Italy trip this may. Couldn't figure out why every hotel in Verona was booked solid. Turns out that teenagers from all over central europe are converging on the town to see One Direction. Oh bother.

In May 2010 also had this same problem in Madrid as it was hosting the UEFA CL final between Inter and Bayern and the city was over run with drunken Italian and German football hooligans.

Thanks, AggieKnight and all the rest of you. Even the airport hotels are into the gouging. For example, one hotel that normally has a double for $120 Euros jacked the price to $525 Euros.

In any case, your suggestions and experiences have led to a workable solution. We are arriving from Paris mid-morning the day of our delivery and will taxi directly to the Welt. We pick up the car at 3:40. We will then drive about 2 hours to Lindau as the first leg of our trip to Aix-en-Provence. That gets us away from the Munchen craziness and onto an Autobahn. Munich will be at the tail end of our trip 2 weeks later.

You can edit the Wiki and put in this info yourself. I've added or updated a few things in the Wiki.

Well that explains everything. My 4/20 delivery date was scarce on hotels... esp. since I was trying to do a pay w/points deal. Still managed to swing the Meridien, but clearly the first stop after Welt is to drive out of Munich and someplace else for the day.
