BMW Apps on Android

Hi,

I have an Android phone and could not find my BMW Remote app on the play store. Is the app not available on Android? I do have an old iPhone 4 but I prefer to use my current phone.

Thanks.

[Edit] I just downloaded the app on my iPad. Its asking for user name and password for BMW Assist. Where can I find or make that?

Thanks.

Don't buy bmw unless you have iPhone!

Just kidding; I use an iPhone so don't know the answer to ur first question but Regarding the second.

Your CA should have told you the password when he set it up and the username too. Also when u set up the bmw assist by pressing the SOS button they will ask you if u want to change the password that the ca set so if you haven't done that then do it.
Another is just call SOS and tell them u don't remember. I couldn't remember my username and did that

Rumor has it that BMW is looking to start supporting Android in July of this year.

Do you have BMW Assist option on your car? If not, neither App will work. If so, the username is the email account you setup for BMW Assist (IN ALL CAPS) and the password is what you gave when you setup assist.

BTW, I find the "Send to Car" App better for sending info to the Nav system.

It lets you use Google maps - better search functions that BMW Remote App, voice search, etc., and then select share and then select the "Send to Car" option.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...=search_result

I have found I use the Remote App primarily to lock the doors when I can't remember if I locked or not. It saved me a lot of worry after leaving my car at airport parking last time.

Is there any given reason why this isn't available in US markets yet?

Dunno, maybe Apple has some exclusivity with them in the US.

Here's the Play store link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...w.remote&hl=en

But it says: This app is incompatible with all of your devices.

BTW, I just noticed the Play store link shows the App was updated to 1.4.7 on 2-April.
I think the version I have is 1.4.6, which was the first one released to public.

The screenshot shows the pre-condition function, so maybe it was added (though that was part of 1.4.6, but only in demo mode.). I'll try to get the new version.

But, if anyone wants to try, here is a link to how to download the APK to your compter: http://www.howtogeek.com/140239/how-...m-google-play/

Could someone download and make the April 2, 2013 apk file available for the USA crowd? Someone at XDA did this for an earlier version.

Thanks,

It doesn't cost much money to build an app. You would think BMW would offer better support for android. Currently your iPhone/Pad can integrate with your car, or you can use audio cable or enhanced blue tooth with your non-apple phone. Limiting.

I think you're SOL for a Windows app. They have, what, 5% market share? Android had to best Apple before BMW turned their gaze on it.

I just downloaded the current APK file and it is identical to the previous one.
I checked and my install says version 1.4.7/1.3.5.
Current version on play store is listed as 1.4.7 so seems like the April 2, 2013 update date is bogus.

Thank you for checking on this! I also noticed I already had the 1.4.7 version, but the update date made me uncertain I had the latest version.

yes i've had 1.4.7 since aug or sept last year. It has not changed since. You will need to root and dl the apk from other sources but it does work! You sign in with your email you gave them and i believe the password is the same as the pass phrase, at least for me it is.

Folks, I am an Android user and thinking about the Tech Package vs. just NAV vs. No Tech at all for my new car.

1) So does BMW Apps work on Android at all? Should I avoid it if I use Android?

2) Can I send addresses to NAV if I use Android?

3) Can I play Pandora (from my Android phone) through car stereo? Can I change channels, skip song though car controls, or do I have to use my phone?

4) Can I use the hands free phone call function with Android?

Thanks.

1) yes Bmw app is actually available in European google play store but not in the US. With android phones though, you can install any app as long as u have the install file (extension .apk). Someone on bimmerfest sent me the file and i was able to successfully install and use on my android phone.

2) yes you dont even need the bmw remote appto do this. U can just use the send to car app which a lot of people find better for sending address. I usually like to use my computer to send addresses to my car which is also possible whether u have iphone or android or no phone.

3) i have not used pandora since i got my car. I will try this today and let u know. By skipping through songs though, do u mean having a playlist and choosing any song u want or just skipping to the very next song. If its the latter, im sure it works. My pandora subscription expired and i cant use a playlist.

4) yes this works wonderfully on my phone. I have samsung galaxy note 2 with jelly bean 4.1.1. I can scrill through my recent phone calls i had on my car and call people, have seamless conversations all through HUD without lifting my hands off the steering wheel. I think u can scroll through all ur contacts via iDrive. This may also be possible on HUD bit i havent seen/tried it yet.

The only problem i have being an android user on a bmw so far is i havent been able to scroll through the list of songs i have on my phone and choose them on my HUD. ive only been able to play next song or previous song. Ive seen another note 2 user on this forum being able to do this so im sure there is a solution to it. Will let u know when i find one.

Someone else can double check this, but I don't think you can send addresses to NAV, nor can you stream music wirelessly from your phone if you only get the NAV. You need BMW Assist also.
