Upsell on Dealer Maintenance

I have a 2008 535 - in today for a new battery. The dealer gave me a report recommending a power steering flush and a fule injection flush - the SA indicated that these were recommendations above and beyond the BMW service recommendations. It is unclear to me if this is based on anything other than a desire to do more service - anybody run into this before?

Well, they are a dealer, and despite being in the business of selling cars they actually make way more profit by servicing them. Some will say it is needed, others will say it's not. Either way the power steering fluid change can be done as a DIY, and the fuel injector flush can be done at an indy shop for MUCH cheaper than dealer labor rates.

I'd like the hear how the fuel flush would be performed. With the direct injection I'd like to know what they are actually doing.

When I took my car into the dealer last month my SA told me to do the fuel induction cleaning. I asked him to get me the info on the procedure they use and depending on what they do I might do the cleaning when I go back in a couple of weeks when I do my oil change. From what I've seen in the forums most people have been happy with the result.

Last year June, the dealer told me to do coolant flush ($200), powersteering fluid flush($200), and fuel injector flush($250) for my 08' 535i. Total $650 w tax, I did it anyway coz I bought the car cpo used, and not sure how the previous owner drove my car. I feel the car is more responsive after the fuel injector service.

I need to research more on injector-cleaning thing.
Remember, after every service dealer reset the trans adaptive this always generate fell of car running better (more responsive to pedal input).
Always good to flush fluids and cheap maintenance.

Just wondering if you had the extended maintenance plan, would these things be covered?
