EWS Anomaly
Regarding my 1998 E39:
On the first drive home from purchasing the car the CEL popped on. Using a PEAKE Research Scan Tool I got the following codes: - E9 - Catalyst efficiency below threshold (the pre cat O2 sensor appears to be bad) - 12 - EWS Signal (passive security system) - 14 - Check Engine Light - Has anybody experienced this EWS Anomaly? According to the book the car should not start, but it starts and runs fine, so... - Why does the engine start? - Why is this code showing up? - Is this what they call a "Phantom or soft code"? I haven't driven it much since resetting the codes so the ECU hasn't cycled enough for me to know if the new AGM battery helped. The old battery was shot and I'm wondering if low voltage from a bad battery can upset the signals going to the module? Thanks, Peter |
