Faint Tapping Noise Interior Of Cabin Near Dashboard Area

Hello All,

I drive a 07' 328xi with approximately 45,2xxk on it. I recently had changed my valve cover gasket due to obvious reasons of normal wear and tear [leakage and oil smells coming into the cabin while I drive]. Long story short, valve cover gasket was replaced successfully, no oil leaks or smells but my only issue is I have a faint tapping/popping noise in the interior of the cabin. The sound is mostly coming from the dashboard area. I popped open the hood, checked around for any loose parts, etc and everything seems fine. However, when I am stationary and I turn the steering wheel left or right the car makes a faint tapping noise here and there as if something that is too tight is about to pop or putting a strain on something. Even when I drive I hear it when I make a left turn, right turn or going straight. I am going back to the shop to let them check it out but any ideas of what this issue might be?

Much appreciated for your inputs. I've searched the forums trying to find someone who had a relevant issue but couldn't. Thanks.

Sounds like the infamous hydraulic lifter tap that has plagued the N52/N54 engines. Do you hear it when the engine is warm/cold? Can you get a recording of it? If you increase engine speed, does it go away?

Thanks for the reply ! Actually that specific issue you were talking about, I rectified that problem a while back. I forgot to mention that I recently changed my front left and right bearing. This situation only happens when I turn left, right or over bumps as I mentioned earlier. I have a suscipious feeling its in regards to my steering. However, my steering is good and no issues with that. Bearings seem fine as well as I have no issues with hearing no more grazing grinding noise but I do hearing a humming and some grazing noise but I am dishing the RFT tires I have on in the summer [Excessive road noise and harsh ride]. This noise I can say is related to like when you open a snapple bottle and you hear that pop noise when the cap comes off ... something correclated along that line. Ive been so busy with work, etc and haven't had the time yet to get the issue checked out by my mechanic.

I found out what the issue was with my vehicle ... When the front stabilizer bars were placed back into position, the metal end piece/direct contact area to screw this part into place was touching/grazing against something that made noise inside the interior of the cabin whenever I went over bumps or bank left or right. All in all, everything else is good now and fixed properly. Just an FYI if anyone else run's into this situation.
