Do I have halogen or xenon on 2010 528i?
Hi all,
I bought a 2010 528i a couple of months back. I've been researching the threads but still can't determine if I have halogen or xenon headlights. ![]() How do I determine that? I'm trying to upgrade my angel eyes and the type of headlights will determine what I need to get. Thanks in advance |

First, do you have Premium package? If yes, then you have Xenons. Another little test is to park close to a wall face first, turn the wheel to both sides, if the beams turn - you have Xenon.

Enter your VIN in www.bmwvin.com
Look at the inner most lights (next to your grill). Are they covered or hallowed? If it looks like it has a lens over it, it's Xenon. |

Simple - look at the light in the outer circular rings. If you can see a narrow bulb you have halogens. If it looks more like a glass lens you have xenons.

Then sorry, you don't have Xenons. On the Xenon headlights you really cannot even see the inner bulbs, they are behind the lens. The outer bulb is also behind a lens.

The blurry like lens? Is about 2 in. In diameter? If so when you start car at night you probably see the beams of you headlights moving at the start up esp. If you have a wall in front of you will see the lights move in different directions..then you have xenon. I Think your high beams are halogen since you said you can see the long skinny bulb.

Not trying to be rude, but it blows my mind that people can look at the beam of light and not be sure if they xenon or halogen. It looks totally diffrent. Does it look yellowish like most headlights or does it have a purple tint and seem much brighter?

It blows my mind MORE that BMW still even uses halogen in any car they make - especially the 5, 6 and 7 series. These are not cheap cars, so adding the Xenons, adaptive or not, isn't going to affect them THAT much.

I guess you are right to an extent, besides, I can't imagine buying a 5 series without at least the Premium pkg - who wants "leatherette"? And the Bi-xenon adaptive headlights are part of the Premium pkg, seems silly to order or buy a car without it.

Ok, THAT I have never seen. I know on the pre-LCI cars the Bi-Xenon Adaptives were part of the Premium pkg, along with the leather interior. They may have changed that on the LCI cars. I wonder if the F10 comes with halogens as well, if so

![]() I know there are still some aftermarket tuner idiots who can't seem to park in front of a brick wall and aim their xenons, but factory xenons from behind the wheel is a pleasure, and I won't be going back. I had to give my 2000 Jetta some 6000K projector housed xenons leveled to the height of my five because they light up the road so well. BMW still offer them because people still prefer not to have xenons. Yes F10's can come without xenons on the 528's

LCI E60 premium package did NOT include Xenon in the 528i (don't all 535i and above have it?)
I found this out while looking at specs of many 528i's as I was shopping. I was a lucky one to get with one with Premium + xenon. |

Also the way HID lights turn on/off is very different from that of halogen; it's instant on/off like fluorescent light.
