Questions on Ordering 3 Series Wagon (F31) in the US

I've been reading that the new 3 series wagon can now be ordered for the US market by contacting a dealer, and that production begins later in the month. It isn't yet available as a "Build Your Own" on, but I used so that I was well informed on MSRP and Invoice numbers before calling dealers. I called BMW of Salem (Oregon) and was told that "there is only five wagons allotted for Oregon/the Northwest and those are 'reserved,' and we're only selling them at FULL MSRP..." Before I contact other dealers, I have a few questions:
1) What does this "...allotted cars..." mean? Is this relevant if I am able to order from other dealers and in other parts of the country? Clearly they are trying to play the "the car is in very short supply so act now..." game to pump up the price, but I don't know if this is something I should, first, believe, and, second, be concerned about. Thoughts anyone?
2) Does anyone pay full MSRP? If so, and if other dealers say the same, is there anyway around it? It seems that when the F30 was first introduced people were getting good deals. Is this because there were many more F30s available than the F31?
3) I have been driving my 2000 323i wagon for many years and am not in a huge hurry to buy a new one, so should I simply wait a few months for the supply of the new wagons to increase?
4) Any other ideas?
Thanks for your help, Tracy

Yes, I'd wait. As you note, they're keeping initial pricing high for those who can't wait. Although wagons generally aren't that popular in the U.S., the new design is a nice one, and the people who really want a wagon really want one. In addition, because the F31 has grown in size compared to the E91, I suspect people may buy the F31 as a 5 Series wagon substitute (which BMW NA refused to to sell this go round).

As the earlier poster noted, European Delivery is one way around this issue. You order the car you want, pick it up in Munich at BMW Welt, drive it around Europe, and BMW then ships it to you at no extra charge. Prices are also 7% lower, because you get to avoid some Marketing fees that BMW NA levies on dealers. Not all dealers like to do ED, because there's some extra paperwork and they don't get credit for ED cars (the more cars a dealer sells, the more cars BMW will ship to their lot (the "allocation" mentioned above)). Check out the ED forum; you'll learn more about the process and discover that almost everyone who does ED raves about it. I did and I do.
