19" Staggered Wheels

We have a 2013 335i Sport Line. My question is why are the 19" wheels staggered ? The rear wheels are Potenza 255/35, 19 & Potenza 225/40, 19 on the front. Thank you. I am assuming its for better handling. & I know the wheels are staggered on the M Sport Model. I think our previous BMW 335 , 2009 had staggered 18" wheels.

"Better handling" as in reduced understeer for the masses and for the more aggressive appearance.

By the way, are you a Texas Tech Red Raider ? Going to the BMW CCA meet in Monterey , Ca in August ? It should be a great event, & one of the most picturesque & photographed parts of California. My wife & I are planning to do our first Oktoberfest with BMW CCA. Ever since we joined 7 years ago, all the National events have been in the East & Midwest. Too far to drive for that short of time. We love Chicago, fun city, great restaurants, been able to work some medical conventions there, & always had a great time Hope to see a Cubs game someday @ Wrigley Field.

Also be aware that not just the tires are staggered, but the rim itself. Depending on model it's a .5 - 1 inch difference in width (generally) and a different offset.

Er...shouldn't that be " reduced oversteer "?

OP, it is true, with a square setup it is much easier to break the rear loose - and especially so with winter tires. Man, I almost started liking these winter months now ...

You are correct. Red Raider probably got his Oversteer and Understeer mixed up!
