How to tell autodim side mirror or not
Hi,
I guess winter required it's toll since the drivers side mirror has started to rust in several spots. I want to replace it, but how do I know if it has autodim or not? Thanks! 2008 525d |

If your rear view mirror dims, then so do the side mirrors.
You can also tell if the side mirrors don't auto dim if they have that light blue tint on them.

You can also tell by the rear view mirror, if it has a small sensor at the top middle of the mirror you have auto dim. Also if someone is behined you with there headlights on cover the sensor at the top middle of the mirror, the mirrors will go back to normal. When you remove your finger they will dim instantly.

Thanks for the replies.
What is weird, my rear view mirror has auto dim. The outside mirrors however do have that light blue shine to them. I also recall that the outside mirrors stayed very bright when the inside mirror dimmed. |

I know!! Maybe there is a difference between domestic models and US models? I have some more weird stuff like electric controls for the seats except for fore and aft movement, which is manual.

Do you have a sensor in forward and back of the rear view mirror?

As far as I know if you have blue tint on the side mirrors, then those side mirrors don't dim. Auto dimming for all three mirrors must be a US spec deal.
If you cover the forward facing sensor completely during daylight, you can watch all the mirrors dim. But during that time if the side mirrors don't dim, then the side mirrors aren't auto dim.
