New Tires
So after reading here and online, i have decided to get Continental Extreme contact DWS tires for my 2010 535Xdrive. my question; i can get them for so much less on Tirerack than any dealer, etc., but is there any reason why it would be more advisable to have the BMW dealer install them vs my local honest service station? any help on what I need to be aware of would be really appreciated. The dealer charge is $241 plus balancing, etc. thanks

Look at tire buyer.com. They have good prices for dws's. stay away from the dealer for install

I used Town Fair Tire. In two hours I had a new set of Michelin Pilot Sport AS plus on the car. They did a great job. When you consider the cost of the install and shipping any savings was not worth a mail order tire deal.

I always figure at least $200 on top of tirerack's price. Sometimes it ends up a good price, sometimes not. I usually over-shop these things (I buy a set of tires about every 15 months). I've had perfectly good luck at Sam's Club, Costco, Discount Tire and even the Firestone shop. You just gotta shop.
There is NO WAY I'd be convinced to get tires at a BMW dealer. My GMC dealer occasionally puts out good tire deals...but thats the exception, not the rule. |

My local guy I use is Tire Rack approved. I asked what that entailed, and he said they will ship to him for installation. He didn't go through any vetting.

So can I ask what you paid in total? Sounds like they are treating you right? I just want to know because I'll be in the same boat very soon. It's Ok if you don't want to to tell...

sure, no worries. $146 per tire, plus getting the computer balancing at $14.95 per tire, + tax, should be around $700. he is price matching the tires from tirebuyer(they just asked me to bring in the quote from tirebuyer.com)-really nice guy.
