What tools for brakes
I have done many sets of pads and rotors but this is my first BMW. I am planning on installing new rotors and pads Saturday so without pulling off a wheel and checking it all out I am wondering what tools I need? Any funky metric hex heads or anything out of the ordinary?
I am assuming just standard metric sockets and wrenches. I know... I am lazy but it is cold and rainy out... Greg |

Yes, some standard tools. However, there are 2 tools you will need that don't come in a standard tool kit: 7mm hex head socket for the pins that hold the caliper on, 6mm hex head for the screw that holds the rotor on, and a can of copper grease to avoid future squealing. Remember to properly grease the pins and the backs of the pads before reassembly.

Thanks... Exactly the info I was looking for.
Just to be clear... you mean a 7mm and a 6mm hex head cap screw and not a socket head cap screw right? Greg Last edited by Blue76; 03-05-2013 at 10:18 AM. |

just FYI.
get 7mm L-shape key handy as well, some BMW with sport model has bigger rotor and some hex socket is too long interfering with suspension components. |
