60,000 mile service question

Do I need to have it done? What does it entail? How much is it? Is it something I can do myself? Any help would be appreciated.

what is required for 60K miles, if its a air filter, cabin filter and oil change, you can do it yourself,

If you have not done it and you are keeping your car long term .
All fluids and filters for 325 and 328 . Spark plugs should have been done
at 45k if you have a 335

The Filters in the Engine bay are easy.

As other threads have mentioned, there is *NO* 60K service (like Inspection II in the old days). Pretty much everything is CBS (Condition-Based Service), or is contained as odball exceptions in your "Maintenance And Warranty" booklet/manual.

Given that, some people like to do things the old-fashioned way (re Mike Miller.) For instance, I just passed the 60K mark, and in addition to the oil service that was due, I had the Auto Tranny fluid changed, the diff fluid changed, an alignment done (turned out it really needed it), and the air filter and fuel (diesel every two oil changes) changed. YMMV.

So if the red service light when I start the car is that a CBS indication or is it some sort of scheduled maintenance? Is there a way to tell what CBS issue is setting the light off oil, air filter, etc

It is an "Inspection" which is mileage based at every 30,000 miles. It does not include an oil change or any filter changes as they are CBS.

Instead, it involves a scope, a number of electronic, mechanical and visual checks and a road test. It should not cost more than 2 hours labor.

Sure.

Thanks, so just reset it and change filters etc when the CBS icon comes on or sooner?

I recommend changing spark plugs because in my case 2 didn't make it to 72000 miles, causing serious misfires.
