Try reprogramming and/or upgrading tranny.

You have to have somebody with the Coding programming Software do it. Either the dealer or someone who has it.

From other posts in here, it doesnt really sound mechanical, since it's only doing it in 1st gear, which is the complaint most have had. Just sounds like a programming issue.
Mine was doing that, but the manual reset took care of my issue.

The guibo or flex disc also is known to cause slams. Alot of people including myself also did the tranny service which is new pan/filter along with new fluid and seeling sleeve and mechtronic adapter.

I just purchased a 2003 745Li and had the same problem. It was just diagnosed as being the Giubo/Flex Disc. The car only has 39k miles on it. that being said I find it hard to believe that its a trans issue with so few miles. I looked up the part and it runs about $60. It'll be next week before its fixed but will be very inexpensaive. Hope this helps... I'll post once completed

If you are getting a clunk sound when you put it into drive or reverse then most likely it your guibo aka flex disk. The guibo is a round rubber, almost bushing like part that connects the driveshaft to the transmission output shaft. It is there to help reduce vibration in the drivetrain. There are holes in it for the bolts to go through to secure it to the driveshaft and transmission output shaft. As the guibo wears out the holes start to have some "play" in them which cause they clunking sound as the bolts slam again the metal lining of the holes in the guibo when coming to a stop.

Since your problem is only happening in first gear that is probably the best place to start. The part should be under 150 and you should not pay more than 3 hours of labor to put it in. The exhaust will need to be dropped to change it so there is some amount of work involved.

Search under "guibo" or flex disk and you will find some other threads with information. You can usually find some good info search as much of these topics have been covered on here.

Yeah I think they thought i would just say oh ok. When they said thats normal once they realized I work at dealership and have been selling cars for the last 10 years and know our state laws on the 30 day warranty they quickly said we are going to send it to bmw which is who I really wanted to look at it anyway so it worked out but thanks again for your help and advice
