automatic convertible top problems

I have a 1998 323ic (convertible) So at first it would only raise the front portion and then made a clicking noise in the back. power top switch red light blinking continuously now the light isn't blinking and nothing happens when i push the top down button. the motors are disengaged the bar war taken off the tonoue motor and wont line back up I was told they had to disengage the bar to lower the front closed. Im not sure where to start, Help! Please!
I need a new top installed but can't install without the top being operational. is it a fuse or the switch I need to address first? and then at somepoint cant I reset the motors and yes the emergency bar under the back seat has been pulled with the top in up position,,, urgh
