Upgrade standard MID/CD player to navigation

Hello all, I just bought an 06 BMW x5 e53 3.0I and it has a standard MID radio and business cd player. I was wondering if it was possible to upgrade this into a gps/navigation system without going to the dealer and spending thousands of dollars through them. ANY information regarding this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advanced.

Thinking along the same lines, have seen a gps/multi-media direct replacement called MALIO 440 on ebay (379 in the UK), looks like a plug and play type deal. Anyone tried fitting one, any feedback would be good.
Cheers

Of course you can do it. There are many plug and play units available. Personally I would go with Dynavin. If you use the search feature in the forums I'm sure you can find tutorials on this as it has been answered many times. Good luck with install!

Thanks for the response Kyle.. I just looked into Dynavin @ottonavi.com and they have 2 nice plug n play replacement units.. one is based off of windows and another based off android...the android unit is about $100 more... just deciding which to get and then I'm placing my order...they told me the face dimensions are 11 1/4 inches by 5 inches... my x5 don't have DSP so it should work out just perfect... ill update with before and after pics once I get everything setup.. price seems reasonable too I thought it would be a lot more.. someone told me it would cost thousands to get a gps/nav unit replaced into my vehicle so I was like daaamn... so I'm glad I was able to find something that looks nice and will work out perfect..

Let us know how you get on, I am not home for a few weeks yet so would really like to get some feedback as to the units performance, one thing that does drive me mental with the present set up is the bluetooth is crap, it works then it drops out and then it works, so something more modern with bluetooth and sat nav seams the way to go but as said would like to hear from anyone who has changed thier head unit.
