Exclamation Service Engine Soon - light glows in yellow

Hi All:

I m back again, and need some expert advise.

My BMW 2006 325i came up with a surprise on the 1st of March with a yellow car symbol and saying "Service".

Is this a yearly service, because, all other check seems to be OK, but this was always there back of my mind that had a date to it 3/2013 - Service and the 1st of March it popped up with this light.

Please advise, on what should be done..should I just reset it or show it to some autoshop folks.

my oil change says 11000 miles still to go so I am a little confused by this light.

Thanks all.
VC

Do you have iDrive? You could check what it is through there.
If not, is the picture of a car on the lift? Or just the word Service in yellow? I have the same message, but iDrive tells me its due for brake fluid. Try going through the oil reset procedure, since you can cycle through the different services and see what is due when.

I got one of these, but I heard AutoZone or some place can read it for you for free.

On the bottom there is a list of capabilities of each model

If your gas cap is not screwed on tight from your last fill you will get this SES light also.

It is either a vehicle check or a brake fluid flush that is due

Its not an SES light, the car is due for service.

With the ignition on, you can go into the service info section using the blinker stalk toggle switch and scroll through a list of when the various services are due (with remaining driving distance and/or a date). English descriptions of the icons are in the owner's manual.

My car was giving me erroneous reminders for the state inspection (aka "road worthiness test") since the dealer failed to reset the indicator when the inspection sticker was updated at delivery.

Thanks a lot to all of you. I am never disappointed coming to this forum.

I do not have iDrive.

Secondly, The service Sign came up as on date, and I knew it was coming. But I need to know is it just a date or I need to do something.
When I do scroll I see 11000 miles yet for oil change and so on for other stuff also.

I m heading out for a long drive this weekend hence the worry.

Regards,
VC

If there isn't a picture of a car on a lift, its most likely the brake fluid. It will tell you how many miles left, but you probably hit the 2 year interval.
